i,ve had good success with other gearbox's using AMSOIL SAE 75W-90 synthetic extreme pressure lub.
it's previously sticky tight synchro's and generally provided a nice smoother selection
would this be compatible inside the lotus box: or is it a no no
i,ve got plenty of this expensive oil, would be a shame not to use it if I can ?

Check the
specsagainst that for the approved oil Castrol TAF-X. It's also worth looking into whether any of the chemicals in the oil are likely to be incompatible with the materials in the gearbox, but I think this is very unlikely as I think this issue only affects older gearboxes. Also, do you have an LSD fitted? If so then the oil should match the one recommended by the LSD supplier.

Here's my story on the Gearbox oil:
viewtopic.php?p=261601#p261601Bottom line, if you like Amsoil, the
Amsoil Gear Lube 75W-90 API GL-4 (MTG) should be fine.
It looks like the AMSOIL SAE 75W-90 synthetic extreme pressure lube is an API GL-5 oil, the Lotus spec is GL-4.
