Speedo driven gear problem

Hi,

I've changed my speedo gear 2000 kms ago, and the new one is already dead

Could it be possible that I did'nt placed it correctly? Or could a part in my gear box being used that would destroy the speedo gear?

My speed needle works an intermittent way. Generally, when I fully press the throttle, it works better. And when I release the throttle, the needle goes to zero....

You need to make sure that the gear is in fully - try reading about gearbox oil change.

I've searched a thread but didn't find. Oil level is ok.

Hi Ted,

Indeed it looks like one end of the cable is not in. There were several occasions where the gearbox end was not in correctly, and i had the same problems as well where the gauge-end of the cable was not in correctly.
I would check it again!

I don't think Simon was worried about the level of the oil, rather that he was referring to the fact that the section on gearbox oil change includes a lot of information about the the Speedo cable/gear.
In addition, there THIS a section on the Wiki which may be helpful

One thread that they may have been referring to is THIS.

The symptoms do sound as though either the cable is not properly inserted, or else the end of the cable is worn (it should be square, and fit into a square hole in the gear). Another option could be that the gear it fits into is worn?

Whichever option, when the friction between cable and gear is low (ie, driving at a slow speeds) the cable seems to be slipping.

I didn't take the gear of this time, but last time I had this problem and changed the gear, it was totaly worned.

I will check the gear to see how it is, but I think it's dead. I will also check the cable that goes in the gear.
