When I bought my car it came with a short shifter kit (I don't know which one) are there generic instructions for fitting?

No, they are all a bit different.
Take some pictures of the contents of the kit and either post them or email them to me and I will dig out some basic guides.

I have some instructions which were the Bob Brown short shift kit instructions, send me a pm with your address and I can photocopy
and send them to you.

Although they are all similar, the DaveH (original kit) instructions are different from the Bob B. kits which again are different from my kits since we all used different hardware and attachment methods. There are two versions of the DaveH kit which are different from each other. Then there is the AB short-shift kit that is completely different and requires rebuilding the Control Box since it has a different shaft.
Pictures will assure that you get the correct instructions for the kit you have.

Sorry guys, didn't get chance to look for the shifter as I was putting my turbo back together today and drilling and tapping bolts and the added fun of making gaskets.
Appreciate the offers of help
