gear linkage cable..

Postby clemo » Thu 26.04.2007, 18:52

writtern quickly will tidy up later.

remove geaarbox tunnel.
i had also removed passanger seat
and front wheels to give more light and elbow movement.

remove gator cover and gearknob (little allen key at rear of gearknob) gearknob unscrwews for ever

remove the 4 allen bolts.
!
wiggle the gearsick encluding housing around till it almost comes out then remove 1 sides split pin.. then wiggle around so the gearstick + housing comes out into the car .. then remove the small double nut that holds the other cable on.

remove the c clips of both gearlinkage cables ( they might ping up inside the box chassis!)
now the cables are loose and the gearstick is loose and out of the car.

get underneath the car and feel your way up and over the gearbox to the middle of the car..
this is where the bracket that holds the cables mounts to the car.
you will need to unscrew them in the arrow direction ( will write more on this when i put them back tommorrow)
this loosens them from the car. (note to self check this upon refit)
you now have to feed the circled end of the gearlinkage cable through the d shaped hole in the mounting bracket on the car..
it will go eventually.
it also helps if you have a 6ft arm span as you can go in with your right arm through and under the oil filter and above the alternator (just by the nippon denso sticker) and help feed it backward through the d shaped hole..

ones that is out the cable is actually loose. but notout of the woods yet.. the knuckels on the gearlinkage will get stuck on everything. and they need to be feed out from inside the car to where you are laying underneath the car (with your nose rubbing on the prongeron!).
this i found was important as you can see a little up the box chassis into the car and also make sure the cables don't get trapped on the rear engine mount . or inded cross over each other at this point .. which they kept doing..
they are now clear and able to come out.
i can fit my arm down (from inside the car) the gearbox tunnel and pull the cable through. however there is a lip that it will get caught on first .. so back upner the car agin to flap it around then it steps over.. hey presto you got the cable (oput or back in )
