1991 Elan SE BRG SOLD

Postby Dom » Fri 06.07.2018, 08:39

Another car has caught my eye, so my Elan must go to make space.

It’s a 1991 SE in BRG with just under 70000 miles on the clock with half leather seats.

I am the fourth owner, the guy before me having owned the car for seventeen years. During his and my ownership it has been garaged. The car has a full service history, stamps extending into a second handbook bought for the purpose. There is a mountain of paperwork. Both keys are present.

In the last year I have spent a lot of money, as I’ve just realised having been through the receipts...

B and C service, including cam belt, alternator belt and PAS belt
Headlight drive bushes replaced
Hispec front brake upgrade
Hall trigger replaced
Closed loop system applied
PNM 2 1/4 inch SS exhaust
Jamie seals to windscreen, front and middle of hood AND falling pillar!
4 new Toyo Proxes
Hunter alignment
New front shocks and springs
BCN quick shift

All work was carried out by Lakeside Engineering.

I have spent many hours lavishing care on this car. The paintwork is very good and the hood is also very good, as are the wheels. I treated it with Renovo last summer. I have refreshed the leather in the seats and kept it very clean. Just ask my neighbour who thinks I am having a mid-life crisis! Even the engine bay is spotless. It is a very presentable car.

More recently I fitted a new steering lower UJ to cure sloppy handling and adjusted the play in the column. The car is now crisp and accurate and a pleasure to drive. I’m in two minds about selling it, but two toys is pushing it a bit and I only have one garage.

The toolbox and spare wheel are present and I have both an indoor and outdoor cover.

Both MOTS whilst in my ownership have been passed without issue and the current MOT is valid until June 2019. I will retain the private plate and the car will return to an H reg, but to check MOT history look up H166GLP.

Im happy to email detailed photos to interested parties.

£6750

Thanks, Jim. I forgot to mention that I have all the original seals, which are in great nick, apart from one of the B posts where the tab came away. Fixable, though. :D

So the 'Still Not Handling Right' thread was all down to the steering column UJ ?

It was! I’m staggered, really. Yes, fitting the new part was not easy, but it only cost £12 and my patience. In addition, tweaking the rack, as per Bern’s instructions, made a significant difference to play in the steering. The two combined did the job, so much so that I cancelled my booking at Lakeside Engineering. It was very satisfying getting to the bottom of the issue and regaining confidence in the car. It is now great fun to drive.

Well, the steering play was more than average. Good to hear it is fixed.

Good luck with the sale.

That's great to know and good information for any Elan owner that feels his car is a bit "floaty and unstable"...

It's not Jim you need to persuade, it's Jen. She holds the key to Jim's piggy bank

That's a bit harsh ~ Jen has never stopped me buying an Elan. Anyway, I wear the trousers in this household (and the pink t-shirt) ;)

LOL. But would Jen allow 3 M100's to be cluttering up your front drive at any one time ?
