You are right. Should have uploaded a pic....so here goes.

It was parked on the street and a white car driving at 2:36AM drove into it mine and a Volvo in front. We have CCTV footage but cannot see the licence plate when they sped off.

The garage quote of £6000 was made to the insurer. I would think that this can be done cheaper.... but they are good guys and took good care of the car after Morland Jones closed down...

#536 dealer car

Postby 51mes » Wed 19.06.2019, 15:41

Gents,

I know the price is high, but I'm looking at #536 at a lotus dealer in cumbria. Possibly with a decent discount from the dealer.

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds ... ee/9723708

It has a whole lot of history/mot and service and was I. Ireland for a good few years hence the UK mot gap.

Has anyone had a good look at the car?

What I'm not 100% clear on is the benefits of an s2 versus a well maintained and probably updated by now SE, that drives the large differential in price - I get some of this is the dealer premium....

Thanks in advance.,

Nice looking car but quite punchy. I would personally be looking at an ~£2-3k discount which is probably their dealers premium ?

No mention of cambelt/idlers/tensioners/water pump/ related belts replacement so that has to be worth at least an ~£1k discount

Give PM a call and ask him about the last related history and anything he can tell you about it

Hi Rambo,

Thanks, that matches my thoughts on the discount exactly. Just flying home tonight from Amsterdam, and will be ringing PM tomorrow. I was thinking a non dealer car is about 10k and they would want some on top.

Want to drive it first and have a more detailed look at the history. Last service was about 1.5k, but not sure what was covered.

Hoping to sneak up Friday afternoon.

Hi surfboardfiller. I have just seen your post of nearly 11 years ago showing a picture of my NMY Elan SE. This shows the original registration number H97OOF but I now have a personalised number BRZ909. I bought the car from a private seller in Essex 5 years ago who gave me a copy of Thoroughbred & Classic Cars magazine from February 2000 as this featured a buyer's guide for the M100 and included pictures of the car.

My car has been lucky enough to be featured again in a buyer's guide article - this time in Absolute Lotus July/August 2019 (as stated in 'M100_DMM's post on 12th June entitled 'Absolute Lotus - July/August, 2019').

Anyone who has seen my posts on LEC before will probably know that I use my Elan regularly and sometimes for navigational road rallies. If you have any information on H97OOF or are even a previous owner then I'd be delighted if you to got in touch.
If in doubt - drop it into third and hit the gas!

Sorry Graaf, the reg. no. isn't familiar to me. But if you can find out the ltd. edition no. Geoff may be able to trace it through the S2 register

For information though it failed its MOT in early July on these things....

Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects):
Nearside Rear Stop lamp(s) remains on when the brakes are released (4.3.2 (a) (iii))
Offside Rear Stop lamp(s) remains on when the brakes are released (4.3.2 (a) (iii))

Repair immediately (major defects):
Nearside Front Position lamp not working (4.2.1 (a) (ii))
Offside Front Service brake excessively binding (1.2.1 (f))
Nearside Front Upper Suspension rod ball joint dust cover no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (5.3.4 (b) (ii))
Front Brakes imbalanced across an axle (1.2.1 (b) (i))
Parking brake efficiency below requirements (1.4.2 (a) (i))

Repair as soon as possible (minor defects):
Nearside Rear Registration plate lamp inoperative in the case of multiple lamps or light sources (4.7.1 (b) (i))
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material all pipes covered in underseal (1.1.11 (c))
Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i))
Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
no coolant in header tank

It passed a couple if weeks later but sounds a bit unloved to me. Most things are minor but no coolant in the header tank sounds a bit worrying

The 2nd time around it passed but different advisories were picked up :wtf:

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Exhaust silencer slightly loose (8.1.1 (b) (i))
Nearside Rear Anti-roll bar linkage pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Offside Rear Anti-roll bar linkage pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Nearside Front Road wheel slightly distorted (5.2.2 (c) (i))
Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Offside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Rear Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))

Please don't let me put you off Graaf. Just my thoughts. Nice looking car which just might need some TLC and £££ chucking at it

Yeah, that was my thoughts but the figure he is asking seems to me to be at the top end of the private sale market, he doesn't seem to want to move.

Also, when I have asked questions he doesn't really seem to have any detailed knowledge responding with 'I presume that was done', etc.

Looks very dodgy to me. But not surprising going by the MOT's and your contact with the guy. Slightly worrying he coudn't answer your questions. I bet you're glad you didn't proceed further :?

Pistonheads have rejected the advert
Scott.

Do I buy another Elan or go for something older and different?
