not as far as i am aware of ( others may say otherwise)
if you go back a few pages there was a bit of a " what to do with the bonnet" conversation going on .

It just keeps popping up ( usually in the wrong sections in cars ) and is rather recognisable thats all .

It is a bit of a common ploy by 'chance bidders' who's only intention is to test the reserve figure set by the buyer. Basically, when a reserve is set, there is no way of establishing what it is (unless the seller states what it is set at!) until a bid reaches it - so you can be the high bidder, having entered a bid of (for example) $4K, but if it hasn't hit the reserve, then the site will still show your bid as being just over the next highest bidder - so could be at £1.2K.

If a bidder throws in a high bid (over the reserve) he will become the winning bidder at the reserve price, and everyone knows where they stand, and things continue as normal to the end of the auction.

The only people who know what the reserve is now set at are the seller, and maybe whoever has retracted any bid over the reserve, having established it, they then retract the bid with some made-up excuse, and we are none the wiser.

The only way to prevent this sort of behaviour, and keep things transparent for everyone, is to change the way the sales are listed.

I fully appreciate that a low start price will encourage initial bidding and interest, but does little to establish 'value' - we all (possibly) accept that the only 'real' bids are the first and the last ones - the rest just fill up the week!

Personally, i'd rather see them remove the 'reserve' facility, and the seller simply starts the sale at a price they are prepared to sell it for - but that isn't in the interests of ebay. After all, they are a business and their sole interest is to generate as much money as possible for themselves - and they can do that by selling you the facility of set a reserve.

If I were to list a car (as I have done in the past), I'll either start it at my lowest acceptable price, or stick it up for a high price (classified ad?) to showcase it, and invite interested parties to make contact to discuss a real selling price.

Back! been to Lotus Land! (Norfolk) We are a bit worried about these dodgy bidders.
But what can we do?
Also.................... getting away from this thread (sorry moderators) been looking on fleabay and saw cars "unrecordered" and it is quite shocking the state some of the cars are in, so you could pay top money for a car that has been bodged up and is possibly dangerous to drive, and cars like mine with little damage and fully inspected cannot get half decent money, and caT D's can vary so much depending on the examiner. I sometimes give up about this country "Yee Haa" cowboys rule????
Hope you all had a good easter :)

Maybe you should report these "cowboys" to the EBay police for acting inappropriately and illegally ;-)
