Custard NA in Manningtree, Essex:
I looked at it last weekend.

Has been listed on eBay twice but not met reserve of £4k on either occasion. I expect it will go through again.

Believed to be the last NA built.

90k, engine sounds good
PAS
Been used as a daily for the last 6 months
Paintwork is good apart from a chip just in front of the passenger door.
A post and roof seals very good. (or even better :!: )
Rear screen has small (2-3") tear. Hood does not sit very well, so needs adjustment. Hood also does not look as taught as it should.
Rear bones look dry and have rust. Not sure whether or not this is just surface rust.
New tyres all round.
Greenstuff brakes at front but feel ok.
Pulls slightly to the left and steering also faces slightly left when driving forward.
Steering feels lighter than my SE.
Standard S1 15" wheels, although these are scuffed.
Anti-stonechip film in front of rear wheels.
Front mud flaps.
Interior is in good nick too.

If only I had somewhere to store it.

I don't know this car, but it's fairly local to me.
Dependant upon price and if I was looking to buy, I'd definitely give this one a look.

Walsall Whitey

What a cracking original example. Think that's the alarm infront of the turbo boost transducer and it may have an MBC fitted (see tie wrap) on turbo intake pipe.

Elans are lovely in white.

Might be worth changing the 'original tyres' though.

No way!

At least you'll know what pressure to inflate them at!

Not a lot of detail about this one.

I assume the seller means all-leather seats, and therefore an SE? Unless these have been changed or were fitted as an optional extra?
Driver's air bag too.....apparently....& a cat.

Zero rating for the seller too.

This one would be a huge gamble. No wonder there are no bids yet.

It's on my 'Watch' list at the moment - too dear a starting price for me to buy blind - but may be worth an e-mail after the end of the auction if it doesn't sell!

1st bidder has placed 2 bids, price will remain at £3000 until a new bidder places a bid.

Sorry, don't know either of the cars

The black one in Newquay has had a lot spent on it, but needs some work.

Adrian is a good bloke to deal with (I bought some of his standard bits and pieces as he was upgrading).

At the moment (at least, when i last saw it) it was half way between road car and track car and will need some work to put it one way or the other.

Although it is black, it's a 'colour change' respray which has been done, and it used to be white (not sure what is on the V5).

An option with it would be to put it back onto its original suspension, brakes, exhaust etc and sell on the expensive stuff which is currently fitted?????

Anyway - I'm currently the high bidder, but not met the reserve :-D

(oops, no I'm not, I've been gazumped - I'm #4! - will be back before the end of the auction unless someone else on here really wants it  )

Newby on this site - Hi to all. :-)

I'm liking the look/spec of the black Newquay car but presume the mods would reduce value a little. I'd be interested to know what the knowledgable amongst you consider it is worth.

Also is the boot lock a BIG issue - I see it mentioned in the buyer's guide.

Many thanks.

Crugbun,

In my opinion, the mods that have been done would not reduce the value of this car, are they are all recognised 'improvements', not just 'customisation'.

The only thing which may affect the valuation is the colour - it wasn't originally a black car, but a white one which has been painted, and could do with a bit of work to finish it off well.

The boot lock isn't a major problem - personally I would just fit a solenoid and have an electric remote release inside the car (as a few of us have already done quite easily).

It isn't a concouse example, but it is a fairly well sorted car which Ade was going to use for trackdays before going off at a bit of a tangent.

It all depends what sort of thing you're looking for

For someone who wants a track car, it's potentially a good buy.

You couldn't buy a standard spec car and mod it to that spec for a sensible price, so if you want all those enhancements, it's a bargain.

But the mods will 'complicate' ownership, increase insurance premiums, and will reduce its value to many buyers.

With prices as they are at the moment, I predict that it may not get past £3k, and if you want an everyday driver, you'd be able to do better at that kind of price point.

Several cars have failed to reach £3,000 in the last week, all of them more practical cars than Blackie here. I bought one myself on Wednesday for less than that.

White cars seem to have 'slumped' furthest, if you're after a bargain.

eBay item 220235196112 looks nice, to me, if you can live with half leather.

eBay item 150246751838 is cheap, so far, too. I don't know if there are any LEC members up in Durham......

A good clue as to value, and a scam warning.

Postby Jackonicko » Sun 18.05.2008, 20:45

Two white NA Elans with similar mileage have reached similar prices (both being relisted) giving a fair old clue as to the market value of a white NA with 90k miles......

£2625 versus £2825.24

1) Cleveland whitey
Having failed to reach its reserve (though it did reach what I now believe to be about it's real worth £2,625) item 300223326134 is now item 300225780570.

J959PPK is white, located in Cleveland (too far away for much of the population to view) with a non standard burgundy interior (nice if that's your thing, but non standard and arguably a bit much on a whitey) and with S2 wheels. It's an NA. It has only a partial history, and the immobiliser has been by-passed. If it's as easy as that to restore, why wouldn't the owner sell with a working, functioning immobiliser? One side light isn't working - has it got an electrical gremlin?

The alloys and bodywork look good in the pics and the rear screen looks top-notch.

The Buy It Now is an over-optimistic £4,250.[/b]1)

2) Stanley whitey

150246751838, another white NA (G516CJH) has become 150248793473, having reached £2,825.24 last time.

It sold to ian151060 on 17-May-08 at 21:09:27 BST.

The buyer was described by seller ang2668 as "Great Ebayer, good communication, great guy AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++++".

Ian was obviously also very happy, describing the seller as "Great seller, a pleasure to deal with AAAAAAAAAAAA+++++++++++++++++++++++."

How strange, then, that the same car is being sold by the same seller again, having been listed (with a £750 start price) on 18-May-08 at 12:52:34 BST. Had the sale fallen through after just 14 hours? How unfortunate that they'd exchanged such glowing feedback.

Or is this a scam, with 'mates' bidding up the price until they find some innocent to pay more for it?

And if the seller is playing those sort of games, who can believe the mileage, or indeed any element of the description?

Caveat Emptor.

Anyone know anything about this one?

It's quite a trip for me to make to have a squint, but i'm interested if the price is right for the car as a project (i hate to see them broken up if they can be repaired and re-used!)

I've sent a list of questions to the seller, and am awaiting a reply.

Looking at a map, am i right in assuming that it is best to get a flight to Edinburgh (airport seems to be the right side for Bo'ness) or go to Glasgow?? (just getting well ahead of myself :D )
