Denny I live about 20 miles away and would be happy to go along to look, ask a few questions and take some pictures. Gives me an excuse to take the Evora or Elan out for a winter drive, Ciara permitting!
Anything in particular you want to know?

That would be excellent thank you.
Just want to know the condition of the front and rear suspension, in particular, the wishbones. Had problems with those on my previous M100.
Some photos underneath would be good.

I can tell you something about the car as I recognise the number plate. Unfortunately I am trying to negotiate a snowdrift the size of a mountain at present so it won't be until much later or tomorrow

I'll be going on Thursday. Rambo if you could post your knowledge or PM me as applicable, I'll look out for them and see how things are now.

As promised....
I can tell you something about the car as I recognise the number plate
It was up for sale with 6 previous owners in April 2018. The sale was via EBay from somebody called Boundingtort (presumably the car's 7th owner) The mileage at the time of sale was 23,397. The MOT was due in May 2019 and the belts were last changed in 2014 at 18,121 miles (they are now well overdue ie >5 years) The asking price was £9500 which was a bargain IMO.
The car very quickly sold to a dealer (UK Sports Cars) where it has sat ever since. From memory the asking price was £14,999, a nice hefty profit for them if they could have punted it on quickly
It obviously didn't sell and has now presumably been traded to another dealer (Dunley Car Sales) where it now sits on 24,535 miles. Asking price on their website is £13,000. I can't however see anywhere on their website where they promise to sort out the advisories ??? I suspect they will tickle it up a bit and just send it to their friendly local MOT mate and get a full years MOT on it with no advisories
There are at least 47 photos on their website but none of the front suspension. Those MOT advisories are fairly common and are easy cop outs for the tester

Sorry David - but you have your Evora to console you
Very grateful though for the uprated suspension / brakes , new hood , hoses , short shift linkage , the list goes on .......

Rambo,
That’s very good information thanks.
I emailed the dealer and he stated that he would sort the advisories before selling and you are correct about the local MOT garage. I asked him to send me some photos of the underside but he said he had just had a hernia operation that morning!
A selfie stick could sort that out.
This gives me some room for negotiation
Much appreciated

Hmmmmmm - doesn't inspire confidence - hernia op

so he is a one man band dealer then with nobody who could take a photo for him
car sounds good but still big question mark about the wishbones and the brakes and cam belt still need doing - even with a grand or two off still expensive when you factor in what needs to be done
only my opinion though - unlikely to find another similar low mileage Elan !
Good Luck anyway.

Price TBC - presumably means To Be Confirmed - more like WTF - why advertise it like this ? are they selling it on commission ? sounds very pretentious - I wouldn't even bother enquiring - I note they have a number of cars marked TBC

They do show prices for their cars on Classic Cars For Sale
https://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/lotus/elan/325476They currently have a SE and a S2 both priced at £13,995. The SE with S2 wheels does look very nice.

Hi Fredjohn,
Thank you for your kind offer but please don't bother looking at this car for me tomorrow as I have my eye on another car.

Did some of the late SE’s have S2 interiors and wheels fitted?
Built 11 June 1992
MOT history states registered 31 December 1994
Retro fitted I guess?

Number plate is correct as registered Dec 1994.
Does look a nice car with a good MOT history back to 2009

If car is se 1992 does this mean it wasn’t registered until 1994 ?

I had a May '92 car which had full leather and red perforated centre panel and seat with matching door cards.
This June version seems to have many S2 revisions and what looks like an oxygen sensor. (correct me if i'm wrong)
If these revisions were put into production near the end of the first run surely it would have been documented as a revision and would be known about.
Was it maybe retained by the factory as a revision mule and sold at a later date without an SE boot badge or S2 decal.

I agree Chipp,
Possibly held by the factory as not registered until Dec 1994?
I am also curious to why it doesn't have a SE or S2 badge?
Interesting car if that is the case.

This is now getting strange?
GOV.UK - MOT/Road Tax status says it was manufactured 1994 and registered 1997?

My Car Check says imported so explains the registered year
Edit: confirmed by dealer:
The car went to Germany in its first few years. It was at the Munich Motor Show I believe. The S2 parts were probably factory fitted but no record. Registered 1997 in the UK when it came into this country and owned by a middle aged gentleman from 1997 to 2019. The car is stunning and low mileage.
The Elan is 100% genuine. The DVLA would have allocated an M reg as they were under the impression it was built in 1994.
