One of his fleet....

Postby LotusBat » Wed 21.11.2007, 11:46

Sy/Matt

I'm a newbie here, joined as I am actively looking for an SE as we speak/type (although that S2 is very tempting Mr Clem! - I did ask Sy to ask you to give me a call!!)

I will, however, enlighten you with what I know about J62 KLR (which I believe is now sold) but in order to do that I need to refer you to other cars, again Sy (who I am also local to) has been more-than-helpful regarding this. In doing so, I hope I'm not speaking out of tone....

J62 KLR was on Autotrader about a month ago - a week later the seller put a burgendy coloured Elan up (reg blanked out). A week after that he puts a 3rd Elan up - A6 LAN - 3 Elans in as many weeks...

I show an interest in A6 LAN and call the seller. Firstly I show concern over his fleet of Elans. He passes on commenting on the burgendy one but states he's selling J62 KLR for his mate (I always struggle with that explanation) - something I find somewhat fishy.

Back to A6 LAN - I ask why he's selling that. It's been his car (for 2 and a half years), he has a new car, no room on the drive, sister now living with the family is using the garage, etc etc....

I go to take a look. Really like the car, can hardly fault it. Really suspect of the seller though. 2 different mobile numbers, things written in the service book in pen or pencil....

After speaking to Sy (on other matters, ie tommorow's meet!!) it became apparant that a good friend of Sy's sold A6 LAN about 3 weeks ago - not to the guy who is now selling it, but to someone else - who passed it on to this guy (for whatever reason????) - so this seller has had it for about 2-3 weeks. He's also selling it for considerably less than what it had sold for 3 weeks prior to this....

So, a highly suspect seller IMO. Sold/selling 3 Elans in as many weeks (privately) - stating he's had the latest one for 2 and a half years when it's obviously 2 and a half weeks. Selling it for a LOT less than what it had just sold for. You can actually check date keeper changed on Autotrader - think it comes up 30/10/07. I gave him a final chance to make amends last night and asked him what was really going on - he was still insisting he'd had the car for nearly 3 years, the change of keeper was down to him taking that reg off the car and putting the original back on (rubbish) - then he started going on about how cars go through his mate's company or summat - he was confusing both me and himself....

Looks an immaculate car but I'll be avoiding it.

This car (A6 LAN) has been owned by four friends of mine in the last 3 years.
Clemo (who bought it from an LEC member), who sold it to Johnny Barr, who sold it to Jason Fletcher who sold it to a mate of his brother's.
The last time it changed hands for £5995 with its A6 plate. This guy is flogging it for £4200-4400 without the A6 plate as he reckons he'll more than recoup his outlay.

He's pissed...

Stuart

I'd ignore your suspicions and just buy it mate...it's one very good/original Elan.

Failing that, I'd buy Clemo's S2 which (despite being in Torquay, now) was sourced by yours truly, who, because of a recent massive tax bill, is in no position to buy in cars at present.

I know Sy, but if he'd have been honest with me and said he purchased the car to sell on, and sell the number plate separately (the combined total equalling a profit!) I'd be a little more happy (but still not entirely - the drop on the car is too much)... I still don't really know what he's up to....

To still insist, after I tell him I know he's only had it for 3 weeks tops, that he has had it for 2.5 years, having it serviced, cam belt changed etc - and (badly) doctoring the service book to show this (although I'm guessing he has done it from Jason's receipts) it really puts me off..

The car looks/looked immaculate and I would still be interested - but I have to grit my teeth and be happy with the seller as well....

A6 LAN SOLD FOR HOW MUCH..
blimey thats a nice tidy profit on what i sold it for....

must stop underselling cars.

i did wonder about taking the plate off but it looked so much better on the car and matched the service history..
shame when things like that get broken up..
also don't like the idea that it has been doctored, this is a blemish on what is a great car ( well when i had it and john too)

stinkingly fast car and i don't even drive fast.
did have an overboost problem if you floored it.

best of luck on your quest..

Does anyone know the white Elan (Glasgow based) on Autotrader for just under £5k? I have a low mileage Elan and I'm thinking of another one to "Play" with....
