Guinness BoR @ Hethel - probably now Donington

Postby Stef » Wed 10.08.2005, 21:20

OK folks. A few ideas stemmed from my feeble brain today during the Lotus factory tour.

Next year is Hethel's 50th Anniversary and they may have various events on.

Hethel has it's own track. They won't let us use it. Unless..... We had great numbers attend Donington, possibly worthy of a Guinness Book of Records mention. If we could get similar numbers (or preferably go for a cool 100) to meet at Hethel it would be great for them to see so many Elans together at their birthplace. And we could work on a parade on their track for Guinness BoR bods to document.

FIRSTLY: Numbers? Who would be interested in this?

SECONDLY: Should we attempt this straight after Donington (can use our stand to romote the event) or wait 6 months or so for summer and to break the events up?

THIRDLY... Can one of you more technical people set up a poll for me to have clearer results?

Men are like a fine wine.
They begin as grapes, and it's up to women to stomp the sh * t out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.

Yes for me, suggest the summer (not Le Mans weekend :) ) but other than that I'm flexible at this stage.

Poll please. C'mon tecchies, show yer stuff!

Will save dredging back later.

So far later in year seems favourable. When the poll is running I'll leave it a few weeks to see what interest is made before suggesting numbers. However I will start cogs grinding in Hethel.

They use 'break the rules' as their strap line so we will and get them to let us use their track! :D

Stef,

50th anniversary of what at Hethel in 2006? It was a WWII American Bomber base so probably built about 1942/43 and Lotus didn't move there until the mid/late 60's, my old Elan (1968) was amongst the first built at Hethel. I can't see the significance of 1956 in all of this. Not bothered, as I don't need an excuse to sign up for the trip, just curious

I'll fire an email off to Annette

:?:

Now that I think, I can't quite remember either. I thought it was to celibrate the factory opening at Hethel in 1966, but it'll only by 40 years :?

If I remember rightly it is the 50th anniversary of Colin Chapman actually buying the site.

But hey, 100 Elans will be easy - after all, we were only 8 shy of that at Donington this year, and loads of owners would be happy with any old excuse to "return home".

So why not aim for 150 - or even better, 200? After all, we all know about M200, and it is still a multiple of both 50 AND M100!

I like your thinking! As I said I don't need an excuse may even be a reason for getting my old Elan back on the road, (now that represents a real challenge).

I have been looking through the GBoR info as to how to make a claim.

Now I am basing my idea on the Bruntingthorpe Longest Lotus parade of last year (Brunty or Bust). Was it Chris T and NChase who were there?

The catagory I see that fit's best is that this will be a 'First'. They are quite specific on what 'firsts' they will accept as a record. Eg First woman to walk the North Pole' but not divisions of such as 'first BRITISH woman to wlak the North Pole'.

I guess our attempt will be a First large gathering of M100's back at factory and to parade their test circuit. The fact that it is a special anniversary year probably will not form part of the record.

We need to think of a record title. I would like to get this right on first hit as they may not accept us varying the submission to hit their criteria.

Has anyone here dealt with these people before?

After record title we ned to write what record we are interested in. Giving details of who will be attempting this (LEC?), How, How it will be measured (what is the record based on) and why we are doing this. We can submit up to 7000 characters in our description.

Phew! Heavy stuff!

Please go to: http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/rec ... PID=418157 to see the record attempt form and use the link to access the other pages of information.

Ideas etc will be appreciated folks! :)
