Oulton Park Record Attempt

Postby theelanman » Tue 20.03.2007, 13:40

I have just spoken to Oulton Park as we (Cheshire Lotus Owners Group...who all happen to be elan owners) have been invited to take part in the International Gold Cup Event over the August bank holiday weekend........its open to many clubs an I tend to invite anyone with a lotus....however........
whilst talking to the guy about a parade lap for all the invited clubs, I accidentally dropped in that we were looking at a GBoR event at some point......to which his voice pitch went up and so did his rate of chatter..
after a 20min conversation they seem rather keen to do this.......

the event takes place on the sunday and bh monday in august and is classic f1, f2, f3, ff, gts, touring cars and all sorts of other stuff from before 1977 racing round the full international circuit.....

as a participating 'club' all drivers and cars get complementary tickets (however you're supposed to pay for you passengers...this hasnt always happened.... :D )

they do camping for the weekend too.......there are b and b's near

there will be no cost incured by anyone regarding the track as the sunday morning no racing is allowed (neighbours complained abiout the noise...typical!!!)...before the racing all gets started the track is 'free'.......and hence they are looking to let us do the lotus parade then.

Sy, Stef.....anyone.....what did GBoR say???

we could do 100's of elans but it'd go down as Lotus but we'd know....
last year we had 60 lotus each day....from the original elite, cortina, elan......up to esprit, m100 and elise/exiges.....

thoughts.......
this is do'able......and we could make a weekend of it

cheers
G

Gareth,

The LEC bedford trackday is on the same weekend

IIRC GBR will not reconise 1 model it has to be the make ie Lotus which was already done at brands hatch.

there is some controversy as to whether the record was claimed at BH. The organisers, as you would expect, claimed that they did and i haven't heard anything to the contrary. Best thing to do is to call GBoR.

BTW The bedford event also involves camping and run outs, the track day is not compulsory.
Could the 'Hokey-Cokey' actually be what it's all about?

Thats why were organising a camping weekend  the trackday is on the monday, were camping from the saturday.
The Golden cup is ok, but it does get borring after awhile and last year they didn`t even do the parade lap

Stef gave up with GBOR as it was a pain to organise, IMO i wouldn`t bother

just to try to revive this.......
august bank holiday 2008 which will be 24th 25th
how about trying this on the sunday??????
OP are up for it.....
it would mean getting LEF/SELOC/CLOG/NYLOC/NORLOG involved.....
I dont mind sorting this as long as we think its viable....
otherwise I'll just get free tickets for the lotus driver who want to come and watch :-D

500 lotus on a track.....half of them elans :-D
