1991 Lotus Elan for Sale - Quick

Postby rmsmall » Sat 04.08.2018, 23:01

I have to get rid of my 1991 Lotus Elan because I'm moving to England on August 15. I can store it after that but I prefer to sell.

I've had the car since 2001 and have rebuilt much of it over time. I put about 30,000 miles on the car since purchasing it with 101,000 miles on it.

It is new struts, rebuilt suspension, custom exhaust, professionally rebuilt head, rebuilt R-134a air conditioning, new timing and other belts, new water pump and idler pulleys, new battery, new power steering pump.

It has the original brake set up which works great after a lot of work. I have new calipers on all four wheels and new rotors on the front.

I fixed all the broken bits as they broke so everything works including the window electrics. It has an Alpine CD system which was new in 2002.

I've priced it at $10,000 which might be high for rapid sale. Suggestions on price would be greatly appreciated.

You can view pictures and more details at my auto trade are classic ad at https://classics.autotrader.com/classic ... /101011636

So what should I price it at to sell?

sell it for what you'll be happy selling it for. you have to consider storage costs against outright sale.
my opinion is that $10K for a Lotus sportscar classic is CHEAP, however the M100 market is a tough one.
some day, it will come into their own.
I have a $27K price tag on mine and some would say i'm nuts, but then again, I would never be able to find another is such nice shape and as well maintained as mine (again, my personal opinion).
good luck with the quick sale. Just don't give it away....

Storage has good and bad points. If you get fresh fluids that have to stay and rain the fluids that need to go then you have a good starting point. Spray or fog the cylinders to keep corrosion down. Coat the leather so it will not mold. I have seen fuzzy steering wheels and seats from high humidly storage in Esprits. Then there is the recommissioning needed once you get back to the car.

Short time to prep the car for storage or sell.
Good Luck.

You are not far from the LOG 38 event this weekend. Stop by FRi night or Sat and show the car for sale.

You may have time to put it on a bring a trailer if you hurry. Maybe they can do a shorter auction than 7 days. Then you can get market price. You'll definitely have to fire sale it if you just stick to regular ads.
