Bring-a-trailer auction closes 16 January 2018

Postby tigerdog » Sat 13.01.2018, 20:43

This one is currently bid to $9000. Photos look clean and it seems to come with the hats and spacers for the original Wilwood conversion kit, so it belonged to someone here at one time. Looks clean in photos,

Now at $12k. Looks a solid car. Interesting comments on this one. Very positive overall which says a lot for the future potential of these cars, especially here in the US where they are more rare. Makes me happy to have one! :D

Plenty of photos which is nice .

Is it missing the front chicken wire grills and the radiator plastic under tray / cover ?

I do like to see the original factory scribbles .

Definitely missing the rusty rooster wire, sump has had a fair wee hit too. I think someone with a long history of welding flash damage to their ocular components has been interfering with that back box joint, maybe even smoking one :D .

Looks overall a nice example though (if you can deal with the blandness of white! ;-) )

Yes, the center grill is missing and the radiator / AC Condenser are not installed correctly. They should be higher than bumper clearance, not with the Drivers side showing below the bumper in the straight on picture.

The FED car doesn't have a radiator plastic under tray / cover underneath like the ROW cars have.

The FED radiators are mounted sloping backward bottom to top from the front toward the back.

I hate seeing the engine with the Isuzu - ground off. Why ???? After all it is an Isuzu engine, and a bloody good one at that !

PS my yellow custard has the Isuzu ground off it  Not by me though. And they forgot the hyphen so it looks even worse :?

:agree:
(and it's even more funny when people tell it's a Japanese Lotus because it has a Japanese engine. Unlike the former Ford Lotus based engine or the Rover or Toyota ones... )

Heavy use of the dremil to get it in though and not really worth the effort.

Looking underneath It looks like the front bumper was parked against a sand bank every night.
Great photo's though 8)

Funny thing about this car is that it was advertised on the Oregon and Washington craigslist for considerably less (didn't sell) than its reached on BAT. Shows that the detail of a BAT auction helps to increase the value.

That's not uncommon. I tried to sell a car on eBay, failed the reserve, and ended up getting 15% more on BaT. BaT has a great userbase of car fanatics who love interesting and rare vehicles.

Good price for that car in less than stellar condition. This one is just a dealer trying it on at that mileage ! https://www.ebay.com/itm/1991-Lotus-Ela ... 0033.m2042

I agree, that car is a long way from perfect, and the modifications don't all seem well thought out or properly installed. I'm not implying it's a bad car, I haven't seen anything but what you've seen. Great price for an imperfect car, bodes well for the market going forward.

(I'm not selling my car anymore as I've made room in the garage for the foreseeable future, and having finally done my clutch, shift cables, Everest Chip and my kids are old enough to enjoy it with me sans bulky carseat... I'm ready to enjoy Elan ownership again.)
