how about making the EM group the fountain of all knowledge for donington?????
Im talking pubs and food spots!!!!!
we could always start with a meet at the melbourne arms (the LEC curry venue).....
then other venues around the area......
Im thinking doing this pre donington...after donington come the summer months and then we could think of a 'stable' venue.........
I would also suggest that the meet be a weekend......only because probably 90% of people work monday-friday even if its shift work............
due to donington this year how about the 2nd sunday in the month?????.......but if we do the different location thing then we must know where we are the following month for the preceeding month.......just to let people who find us (by accident or otherwise) where we'll be
after Donington set the meet at a single location...hey we should have worked out which venue is best and also be able to tell everyone at donington that 'this is where we meet'...........
I would take the next 4 months as a reccy......should be enough time....
thoughts?????

cheers
Gareth

Hello again G,

I'm reasonably flexible with regard to meeting days/times, but I agree with Gareth in that weekends are probably best. This would also fit in with Gary B.'s desire to see attendees' cars during daylight hours.

As for location........ yes, it would seem from your map that North Nottingham would be the most geographically central/convenient location for everyone that's expressed an interest (so far.)

I haven't been out that way for absolutely ages, but if I recall correctly there were a few big pubs/restaurants just North of Nottingham around the A60 .... The 'Burnt Stump', The 'Seven Mile Inn', 'Lakeside', 'The Hutt' etc. Perhaps one of those would serve (assuming they still exist :?: )
There surely must be some suitable venue around that (Ravenshead/Papplewick/ Newstead Abbey) area, but of course Enright and the other Nottingham residents would doubtless be best placed to advise on this.

Of course this might just give me the ideal excuse for getting out and about this weekend, to 'recce' a few new pubs........ purely for research purposes you understand

Cheers,
Martin.

Guys....
re the venue.....
as youre getting to the winter months and salt on the road I doubt the elans will be out in force.....
hence my idea of changing venue location until after donington 2009....
my idea being that we can recruit at the donington weekend and have a stable venue.....
I also reckon that we dont want to be too close to anyone...otherwise they'll get a bit miffed that theyve had a 30 second trip to the meet and not even get the engine warm......pick a nice venue in the sticks somewhere......
justa couple of thoughts
cheers

I'm happy for us to form a scout party for the rest of LEC, In other words I'm willing to eat all that food and beer in the interest of the greater good. :-D

Weekends are also best for me so I think we'll go with that, the Melbourne Arms sounds like a good start unless we have any objections and I'm sure we'll try a few before we find somewhere to be our "local". When Summer comes round we may want to aim for a pub like "The Hutt" which is indeed quite nice.

So to get things moving I like to make a proposal of Sat 6th December @ The Melbourne Arms.

Oh and I'm on Duty in the tower at Hucknall Airfield as Duty Fireman on the 7th so I cant make the Sunday.

All,

Excellent ! ...... I'm more than happy to kick off at Melbourne..... looks like a good pub !

Unfortunately, like Gareth, I can't make it on that particular evening, (as 'she' and I are already booked in for a charity fundraiser on Sat 6th :( )

..... also .... have we decided whether the meeting(s) will be lunchtimes, or evenings :?:

...... and finally ..... I have to agree with Gareth about Sundays being preferable (although I'll fit around whatever the majority want to do :D )

Cheers guys,

Martin.

I reckon sunday lunchtime.....say 1:30pm ish.....anywhere between 12 and 2
that way it should mean that no matter what time of year it'll always be daylight.....
I reckon that it'd be a 2hour meet.....hey in summer we could do a 'pre-meet hoon'......just more thoughts.....
cheers

OK, I've updated the first post with details.

If people that can make it add there name to the list below so we know whos coming, When we get a couple more I'll give the place a ring to make sure everything is alright.

Being December I know its going to be a bit difficult to get a date that suits everybody so those that cant make this first meet keep your eye on the thread and we'll try to get a date to suit you in future months.

If I can get the driveshaft that I need next week, and if the weather's good enough for me to fit it in time then I should be OK, but the ifs are mounting up a bit!

OK I've phoned The Melbourne Arms and they say on Sundays they have a Buffet style until 6PM when they start serving there usual meals. I held off booking until I had peoples thoughts.

The Buffet is:
Indian, Thai & Chinese
OVER 25 DISHES
Including Fresh naan

I've gone and forgot the price already but I think it was £8.99 per person

If people are happy with that I'll book a table.

Hi G,

If you're going to book a table could you please allow for one extra attendee, as my partner will probably be joining us.

Cheers,

Martin.
