At Longleat, you gan get into the grounds without paying anything, there's plenty of open space for a picnic / BBQ, and you have the option of doing any of the attractions if you wanted to.
Avebury is a bit like Stonehenge, but more spread out - don't know of anywhere local for a picnic though (unless you crash a field like those Dolomite Club yobbos

)
Perhaps after Dony, someone local to the area might like to sort out a 'scenic drive' route, with a suitable end place?

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it
...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Longleat sounds like a good idea - especially if we can BBQ there.
Everyone happy with that?
Dates?

No, not really (unless we're buying 2nd or 3rd Elans

)
I can do any date in June (apart from 9th thru 19th) July or August at present.
Cheers

I'd be up for this guys. Longleat sounds great - never been there before!
I can make most weekends throughout June, July and August....and i'm sure I could defer anything that conflicts with this outing anyway!

We could meet at Avebury, have a 30 mile drive via Devizes and Warminster, then on to Longleat. (Or pick a longer route if you wanted to).
Just a sugestion, the roads were good for the drive about 12 years ago (when i was working at Devizes regional driving school), as we always used it for our advanced courses.
I expect that they've hit them with speed limits now though

(perhaps a 'local' could comment?
As i say, only a suggestion, I don't want to be seen to be hijacking your (our?) day out!

Loking at the longleat website
http://www.longleat.co.uk/your-visit/pl ... r-day.html
it seems barbecues are not allowed - no matter we can stick with a picnic.
The grounds are impressive, in my opinion and as dapinky says peeps can do extras if desired.
Entry to grounds and gardens seems to be £3 per adult - which won't break the bank. I might do a recce in a few weeks time.
Cheers
Jim

Chris et al,
I'd plump for early July - that would avoid the ankle biter season ... and the other Longleat events.
Any more comments on date?
Cheers

I'm all for a S/SE + BOLLECKS get together.
I've offered to give Nige a break this year by hosting the pre/post event get-together, but I haven't heard back - he's probably pretty busy with the job move etc. so I thought I'd open it up for discussion. One disadvantage is that I'm about 10 miles north of Bristol, so it could make for a long drive for some of you. The Cotswolds, Wales and Concorde are all close by though.
