Halfway between H&C & Winchester on A31 Temp gauge rises until off the clock and stays there. Pull over into closest layby and pop bonnet, sound of electric collant pump working but clearly not moving any fluid. Hissing sound from header tank and jet of steam visible in the torchlight, bu**er!

The tube bit on the header tank where the top overflow hose attaches has split around the circumference and the resultant hole is the source of the leak. Bit of makeshift repair required, silicon sealant in toolbox used to bung up hole. remains of bottled water, topped up from a variety of sources including puddles strained through handkerchief put enough liquid in the system to get me to Rownhams services on M27 to fill up with water after a tour round Winchester found no services open.

Need a new header tank, anyone know what its from? (I'll do a search)

Sorry to hear about your problem, pleased to hear you managed to limp home. I don't think anyone has managed to find an alternate source, though - fingers crossed that there is one.

Cheers

Jim,

After your comments on the weather I seem to recall you asking me if Norma was running ok? Is there some spooky connection here :D ?

Found it! A GM/Vauxhall part, thought I'd seen it and a couple of variation on name in the serach facility came up with This.

Now to start ringing local Vauxhall parts depts.

err it's looking a bit iffy at the mo. Deirdres dad is gravely ill, will know better in the next 24 hours.

if i can make it Nige could you bring your bullet camera along with all the gadgets especially the start/stop switch. if it works on my kit i'll get one cos i missed a lot of good footage of you in front of me on sunday cos Deirdre pressed the wrong button and it didn't record :(

It's my first chance to get to the H&C since becoming the proud owner of my Elan. Will anyone else be there next Wednesday?
