Anyone interested in a pre brands meet and a drink and maybe arrange to meet up on the morning of the 15th to go into brands together.

Yes, that works for me. I can't easily do week days unless it's evening time, though. A weekday evening or Sunday morning would work for me...

As for a meet on the way to Brands, it's probably a good idea too. I'm waiting to see what the organisers expect of us on the day in terms of arrival times and arrangements, but I'm sure that arrival en masse would be OK if enough of us can agree on a time and place.

I have a lot going on in next few weeks so a pre Brands meet could be awkward but very happy to meet
up to go into Brands together.

I thought I'd rekindle the idea of a coast fish and chip run that we talked about.
So yesterday evening Jane (my wife) and I took a drive down to Dymchuch in search of a fish and chip supper and an opportunity to scope out the vicinity.

As it turns out it could be just the place to meet up with our cars one evening, if there is still some interest in the idea.
There is a fish and chip shop a couple of minutes walk from the car park, it was open until 9pm last night (Sat 25 July) but I suspect it closes earlier later in the year. There is a Kebab house, Indian and Pub that serves food if preferred. Next to the chip shop is a Tesco extra for anything else we need (plastic cutlery, sauces, extra salt...) including a cash machine. Public toilets just a bit further on down the road too.

Here are a few photos of the area plus a suggested meeting place and convoy route to Dymchurch.

Plenty of space

Pictures.004.jpeg
Places to sit and admire the view

Pictures.005.jpeg
Plenty of company

Pictures.006.jpeg
There's even a car wash!

I haven't been here myself but this pub, The Woolpack Inn at Warehorne, looks like a good place to meet, big car park and a 10mins drive from M20 Junc 10 and 25mins drive from Dymchurch. See the attached google maps link.

https://goo.gl/maps/nGisN

Suggested time table might be:

17:00 Meet at The Woolpack Inn
18:00 After nursing a glass of coke for an hour and everyone has arrived, form a convoy and drive to Dymchurch
18:30 Arrive Martello car park at Dymchurch (free parking after 18:00)
18:45 onward, buy our supper, admire our cars, chat, look at the view, say good bye and drive home, with the roof down of course :D

Dates?
Stupidly I forgot to ask if the chip shop was open on Sunday, I'm guessing in High season it would be.

Would a Saturday work for most? Or Sunday, a weekday may be tricky for those who still have to work for a living.
I have commitments on the two weekends prior to the Brands Hatch Lotus Festival so maybe the later weeks of August (perhaps avoiding the August bank holiday weekend.....traffic  )

A couple of dates to throw into the hat would be Aug 22-23, Sep 5-6?

Thoughts?

Nice!

Thanks for the recce exactly as I remembered it, and I reckon a good proposition.

I'll have to check the work diary, but probably either week will work for me. It'll be nice to put some miles on the old girl as well.

Yes very! I have spent many days/ holidays at Dymchurch. Parked in that carpark and used that fish and chip shop. There is another one in the town, and a reasonable pub a short walk. The beach is sea wall/shingle at high tide but quickly becomes sandy. 1/3 scale steam trains a short walk, and all of the usual seaside amusements. That carpark can be full on a busy day and you will get a fine if you do not have a valid pay and display ticket (even when it is empty). Very good elan driving in the area as the roads across Romney Marsh are flat and have lots of good bends. Watch out for the Level crossings !

Great for a full day out, or an evening fish and chip run.

Alternative idea cars Planes and trains Day out Eastbourne Airshow (Vulcan, Red arrows), New Romney Station (engine shed eleven 1/3 scale Steam engines), Dymchurch Fish and Chips on the 15th Aug Drive to Brands Hatch, Camp in the free camping Lotus festival on the 16th? Just checked the times and it might be a stretch to get all of the airshow and the trains in. The Vulcan is at 2:15 so you could do that and trains or skip the trains.

Those not familiar with the trains http://www.rhdr.org.uk/fares.html

I use a photo of my car in that very car park in Dymchurch as the desktop background on my PC so know the area well. Think I'm free those dates so may come along - only met Ian T before who is just up the road from me.

Good suggestion Simon on the Eastborne run however I suspect most will be spending the day at Brands on the 15th.

Personally I don't do camping as I don't have the kit but others might be up for it.

From my end there is good news and bad news.

Bad news is the car failed it's MOT on Tuesday  As I suspected it failed on the rear brakes. Of course the good news is I have a nice new shiny set :D

After spending the whole day on it today they are all fitted, bled and ready to go back to the MOT garage on Friday for sign off. All being well I'll be in good shape to go for Saturday fish and chips.
Took the car for a short spin this evening and I can tell the effort is worth while, even before the brakes have bedded in.

Barring any disasters between now and Saturday I'll see you at the Woolpack between 5 and 6.
