I thought I'd rekindle the idea of a coast fish and chip run that we talked about.
So yesterday evening Jane (my wife) and I took a drive down to Dymchuch in search of a fish and chip supper and an opportunity to scope out the vicinity.
As it turns out it could be just the place to meet up with our cars one evening, if there is still some interest in the idea.
There is a fish and chip shop a couple of minutes walk from the car park, it was open until 9pm last night (Sat 25 July) but I suspect it closes earlier later in the year. There is a Kebab house, Indian and Pub that serves food if preferred. Next to the chip shop is a Tesco extra for anything else we need (plastic cutlery, sauces, extra salt...) including a cash machine. Public toilets just a bit further on down the road too.
Here are a few photos of the area plus a suggested meeting place and convoy route to Dymchurch.
- Car park entrance with the chip shop just up the road
- Plenty of space
- Good views from the top of the see defence wall
- Places to sit and admire the view
- Plenty of company
- There's even a car wash!
I haven't been here myself but this pub, The Woolpack Inn at Warehorne, looks like a good place to meet, big car park and a 10mins drive from M20 Junc 10 and 25mins drive from Dymchurch. See the attached google maps link.
https://goo.gl/maps/nGisN Suggested time table might be:
17:00 Meet at The Woolpack Inn
18:00 After nursing a glass of coke for an hour and everyone has arrived, form a convoy and drive to Dymchurch
18:30 Arrive Martello car park at Dymchurch (free parking after 18:00)
18:45 onward, buy our supper, admire our cars, chat, look at the view, say good bye and drive home, with the roof down of course
Dates?
Stupidly I forgot to ask if the chip shop was open on Sunday, I'm guessing in High season it would be.
Would a Saturday work for most? Or Sunday, a weekday may be tricky for those who still have to work for a living.
I have commitments on the two weekends prior to the Brands Hatch Lotus Festival so maybe the later weeks of August (perhaps avoiding the August bank holiday weekend.....traffic
)
A couple of dates to throw into the hat would be Aug 22-23, Sep 5-6?
Thoughts?
