Parking???

Postby MPx » Sat 17.03.2007, 20:03

First of all....Wow! Thanks to whoever organised everything to get us all together. My first time with LEC (normally go on Sunday) and both Fran and I had a really good day.

Without meaning to express negativity....just wondered what happened about parking at D'ton? It was obviously tricky to stay in colour groups with all of the rest of the traffic from the services. But what semblence of organisation we did maintain seemed to break down to something completely arbitrary once we got to the circuit. Not even Elan oriented parking let alone colours. No real problem, just a shame cos it looked so good in the pics last year when it was sorted properly. 8)

Anything that can be sorted for next time?

Cheers Mike :)

I questioned the marshall on the entrance to the normal Lotus only parking area when I got there ahead of the convoy at 0925.
I wanted to know why there were other cars parked in the back rows where we had agreed with CL to park.

He said that he had asked everyone to avoid using the back rows as they drove in - like that was ever going to work. It's normally either cordoned off with tape or there's another marshall down there telling the other Lotus drivers not to use it.

As the convoy began to arrive it was blatantly obvious that we weren't all going to get in - it was nigh on full. We accommodated the reds, whites and blues in the usual car park and I made the call and told the marshall on the gate of the fenced gravel area to put the remainder in there.

Sad however a little un-controllable.

Next year I think a specific request of a taped off section needs to be made.

Also, 3 years on now the M100's have had a section off reserved, this must be a little annoying fro the other Lotus owners.

Yes, I think a lot of them had decided to arrive early to beat us to it. You can't blame 'em really

It was indeed a shame, I think the reds leaving first rather than the lower numbered cars didn't help with the flow of the convoy, there also seemed to be a lot more joe public in the car park this time around. I would have been happier to have been parked in the overflow car park all together if we wouldn't all fit in the main car park, maybe Club Lotus can arrange this for next time and maybe it will make some of the other lotus owners a little happier about having to park in what looks like the output car park of the lotus elan factory.

gravel car park

Postby tswcowboy » Mon 19.03.2007, 21:54

gravel carpark i think its the best place to go as no one gets pissed with the m100s and we can be left to our own devices 2 men get there early and marshall everbody else in on the back fence out of everbodys way i think its the way ahead perfect for photos and any combo of car colours you would like would be achiable by shunting the cars around as needed

I agree, the overflow carpark, although dusty would relieve the pressure for Club Lotus as well LEC members.

The convoy was a shame this year and perhaps revert back to the usual format next year. I think the convoy was a little late getting going which didn't help as well.

I think that the 5 minute pre-flight briefing/pep-talk is a must.
If we all have some idea of the plan then it easily falls into place. But while the little slips of paper were a good idea, it was sort of a case of "thanks, I'll read that later when I have time. Oh look there's my old mate Fred..!"
(And the print was too small for the BRG owners to read!)

IMO, the the instruction slips are OTT. We are not an offical club, it`s all about social event not someone telling u what u can or can`t do.

After 3 years Maybe have a change from the colour coordinated and have a random colour, think there`s a couple of clubs saying here they are again and were starting to look a bit geeky.

Let them have there carpark back LOL

Shouldn't have let all the reds go first and fill up the car park, meaning the decent colours got left out

Perhaps I'll have to volunteer to sort the convoy next year...

Geeky!

Yep, gotta remove that image.

Last year the Elise lot seemed to make an effort. Were there any group efforts going on for Sunday?

The gravel overflow carpark sounds great to me. As we weren't all together in a block this year, I missed the opportunity to chat to people & look at cars. Well, that and the fact that the wind was a bit chilly.

What a lot of Elans, though. Sometime I must do a point-count on the photos I took just to see how many turned up. On the other hand that sounds a bit sad and I can't be bothered.

John :-D
