Thanks for the info. :D

I investigated the classic9leather shop product although it looks excellent its the shipment and taxes that are prohibitive. It works out approx £150 + taxes and its not as per original spec as I believe it is not foil lined. The other product has the silver foil facing the engine the original spec has the foil against the bonnet with the adhesive on the foil as per the specially produced product i have sourced. He is specially producing it for Elan owners on the product number posted on this thread after I informed him the original spec was no longer available. The cost was £56 in total but £20+vat of the cost was shipping so if you live in or near Leicetershire its a total bargain if you can pick up. :D :D :D

New under bonnet sound deadening cut to shape.

I sourced specially produced to original specification sound deadening as discussed on a separate thread.

New sound deadening fitted at last. I removed the foam from the wings that go under the bonnet hinges exposing the reinforced foil as per the original spec

I am very pleased with the result :D

Well everyone its been a long haul but JIMBOB's Elan (JUFs) is very nearly finished.

I still have a few small jobs to attend to:

Fitting front wheel arch liners.
Fitting Front door carpets (I am going to find a better way other than gluing them to the door card)
Bleed the brakes.
Sort slight misfire (Fingers crossed I hope is just a coil pack)

Then off for a full 4 wheel alignment and MOT. :D :D :D

When its totally finished I will post some better photos but in the mean time here are a few.

I will be finishing JUFs in the next 2 months. I thought I would give the LEC community the heads up due to my recent divorce it has become apparent that it will be necessary to sell JUFs when completed. To this end I will not be using the car at all upon completion so the new owner will get all the benefits of a totally OCD restored very very special Elan. It wont be cheap but the best things never are. It has only covered 40k miles from new.

I will post more details on here when I am ready to sell and post on the Face Book Group. Feel free to message me if you are genuinely interested.

Carpet with clear Perspex Backing glued in place
I've been adding some finishing touches to JUFS.

DOOR CARPETS: AS the red carpet was soo hard to get a hold of and having experienced the door carpets being damaged on numerous Elans when being removed for any work required within the door I decided it would be prudent to protect the door carpet backing from damage. I managed to track down some 1.5mm perspex which I cut to shape and glued the carpet to the perspex. It works very well the carpet back is now protected.

BOOT FLOOR CARPET: A new carpet was supplied with the car however it had no backing boards or sound deadening. I bought a slightly thicker board as the original is very thin and 1 metre sq of sound deadening. Removed the jack handle clip brackets cleaned and repainted them prior to refitting to the new boards with the sound deadening.

I am pleased with the results. :D

I have now fitted a plaque in memory of JIMBOB (Jamie Benzie) Its impossible to describe how much of a perfectionist he was but if you ever get to see the car you will understand. I have such respect for him and his attitude to life. What a great guy.

As I have taken the decision to sell without driving it there are only a couple of small jobs. The brakes need filling with fluid and bleeding, Stereo needs plumbing in suspension needs 4 wheel alignment and head lamp beams need setting then its MOT time. The car will be going to "The Car Barn" who will value the car and handle the sale. I've no idea what its worth it is HPI clear however I can confidently say I doubt there is an Elan out there with the same attention to detail put into its rebuild to make it better than when it rolled out the factory in many critical areas. Jamie was a true OCD total perfectionist. 8)

I just realized you must be very close to me.

Let me know how you get the suspension alignment sorted.
The car barn couldn't do it for me, and i ended up driving to knaresborough for a specialist to do it.
He got things within spec. But I'm convinced he could have done a better job if he had spacers and shims.
Certainly if i ran the business claiming to do that job on the elan, i would have in stock enough spacers and shims to do it factory spec

How long ago was it you asked the Car Barn? I am supplying the full range of factory shims for camber etc to the Car Barn. Alex in the workshop owns an Elan and a Esprit X180 N/A. I live within a mile of the Car Barn. The Elan is not difficult at all to set up??
