The Turbo is back on the car, along with the new down pipe, should have it all fired up tomorrow

The Piper down pipe to the standard lower down pipe was a real pain to fit , I don't think this would be the case on the Piper system.

Well it's all back together and running
I still have over boost but I really have to wring it's neck to get it,
generally it has improved it's just that I've moved the goal posts a bit so maybe I need to go bigger (I went to 20mm).
So how does it go with the new down pipe ?
Well ideally it would have been great to do a proper rolling road comparison,
but its been impractical for all those who have bought the down pipe so far.
The closest I can get to this is when I "test drive" the car between two roundabouts I have used in the past for "testing",
it does seem to be much quicker, to the point where I feel my suspension needs stiffening up .
The only thing I would prefer to change is the length of the lotus down pipe (goes between the piper and exhaust )
It could do with about 1/2 to 3/4 inch taken off for things to hang as they should
If I can get hold of some pipe with an internal diameter of 2 inches I might modify it.

I have now added a flexi and shortened the overall length of the aforementioned pipe so the exhaust hangs as it should,
also the down pipe is protected from vibration and undue stress.

In the picture i don't see how you mounted the heatshield to the nut on the PAS pump?

I just marked and cut a slot about 8X8mm in the heat shield and it just sits on the protruding stud,
seems to be doing the job but I will keep a close eye on it

I'm running a Paul Matty exhaust so it has a roar of it's own, but I have noticed it seems more pronounced.

Before I shortened the pipe and added the flexi it forced the back box beyond the rear top arm, you can see where it normally sits on the silencer when I jack the car up

I had the same problem with my PECO (Cybox)
I adjusted the lateral position of the rear exhaust parts. I pulled the pipe to the rear and then fastened the clamp that holds the exhaust parts (sliding) together. This cured the problem beautifully as it now stays clear of the suspension.

About your heat shield fixture: This sounds like a potential source for rattles to me! The support works only in one direcion. When you'll hit a bump, the mass of the shield will create movement away from the bolt.
I did not cut a hole, but made a bracket from a strip of stainless to the same bolt, and still this is not enough so i have to make another bracket to the front and third bolt of the shield (i hate rattles)
Besides: you are now at rist of ruining the heatshield of the exhaust manifold (where the bolt of the turbo heatshield meets the shield). I would somehow secure it if i were you

I will be keeping a close eye on it with a view to something more permanent, it's a work in progress.

As it was a sunny morning I went a a blast to see how an extended run would feel, and to burn off that new hot ceramic coating smell .
It's seems to have more torque for those overtaking moments, even at the top end of the speed range I was surprised by the response from the throttle

But I still experienced over boost

And my oil cooler leak has resurfaced at least I know it's not the pipes

Well changing the oil cooler finally put an end to the leak ,so what with the pipes being replaced thats another job well and truly put to bed

I've also got around to helicoiling the threaded holes retaining the spark plug cover




Today I fitted my Everest chip which has made the car's performance go from pretty good to AWESOME
I did my usaul circuit this morning then added the Everest and then wow what a difference

Well it's been a while actually more than a while I may have even forgot all about this thread.

Today I overhauled my near side head light pod motor.(after watching that u tube video )
The light pod wasn't giving the usual symptoms that would cause you to suspect it needed an overhaul i.e. it always went up ok but was violent on the decent.
When I took it apart I found the three little round nylon things were more like kidney shaped and cracked
I put this down to the fact that they were put together without any lubricant.
I rebuilt the motor with the kit I had long since bought from SJ's and all is now well.

So on to my things to do list that will hopefully spur me on to actually do some of them although I've not done bad over the years

(1).Project dry knee, (to have a roof that keeps the wet stuff out)
I have to say overall this is going well , much of the spongy stuff has been replaced with the more conventional rubber.
Many many thanks the the god of rubber (Jamie) who's has been both inspirational and more than helpful.

(2).Tidy up the chassis, scrape, paint, wax and fit those galvanised wish bones that have sat in the back of my garage for years .

(2b) Suspension, keep original height with adjustable damping, not sure where I go from here

(3) Drive the bloody thing !

(4) I like what Henk did to his wheels with the plastidip I might give it a go

I'm lumbered with choosing next location so was thinking about one of the Finchingfield pubs. It's always 2nd Thursday in the month so put May 11th in your diary.

Decided it was high time to dive down and give the chassis the once over
Certainly nothing to worry about here,(this is after I wire brushed it)
