Me neither so the advice below is worth what you paid for it = 0:
1. Get the base timing reset to 16degrees BTDC. Monty will be able to do this in his sleep. Run elanscan -- as close as possible to the run rip posted. Post it.
2. I've litle idea how the ECM logic works so, in theory, if your current base timing is below 16deg then setting it at 16 may produce more knock events. So lets find out.
(Lots of things can cause knock besides pre-ignition (pinking)). Geoff is correct about the ignition being retarded.
3. I'm concerned that if you go above 1.2 bar the MAP sensor goes south and you've got to disconnect/reset. I'm wondering if the ECM learning is still in place but has been thrown a curve ball by the 3bar MAP
4. I'd be very tempted to disconnect the battery for 1/2 an hour to clear the 4K wastegate overboost events and reset the ECM learning -- but would like to see a run with the timing correct before doing that.
Some of it sounds quite serious tho  :?

Knock events aren't good but they aren't what I'd call serious.
Do some testing and let's try to figure out what's happening.

Cheers again Tony.

We have a meet in a couple of weeks so hopefully we will be able to replicate that run after checking the timing.

There were no cutting out issues when the full kit was fitted initialy. The boost (recorded on the gauge) could be increased to more than 1.2 bar with no problems at all, and this was the case for several weeks. The problems started when the plenum pipe blew one of its cr@ppy jubilee clips off whilst on full boost. I perhaps hadn't fitted it too well after a coolant change not long before. I now have to keep it down to around 1.1 bar to avoid any problems.
Don't get me wrong theres bags of power, so long as the revs are used. But it would be nice to have the option of turning the boost up slightly more if I wanted to.

Rips, see you at mine for coffee prior to the meet... :D

It may be worth experimenting with this.
Mine ran like a bag of nails when the timing was set correctly & I got a huge improvement in performance by advancing it.

All Elans are certainly not the same!

C'mon Geoff - you should know by now that the only way to get Dico to buy a lead off you is to make it a group buy and start a list
