I think they look marginally better with the covers on but it is only marginal ! They look a bit like 1970's saucers :?

Is it the lighting or are the covers darker than the wheels? Would they look better if the covers were the same colour as your hardtop?

Just thinking out loud.

Your right the covers are slightly darker, they sent me out Black ones as they didn`t have the others instock. I went to the local motor factors to get a tin off spray for the colour Anthracite, he checked his little book and that was the resulting colour  I will find a better match but just got to decide if to keep the caps or not :?
They are a pain as
1, you need to take them off every time you want to check your Nutz
2. there`s only one bolt, which some time`s the cap won`t sit flush and i`m worried the bloody things might fly off

They do come with stickers  like the photo below and i could replace the center logo with a Lotus stick on resin dome type

I agree; I was thinking you should do Cat on Skates! I like it sans cover, but leaving the rusty hub covers showing is a bit daft -- is there a way to get a smaller center hole cover and put some vinyl on it?

I do have one set off the stick on resin dome cat on skates (black/silver), IIRC they are 53mm diameter but could do with 60mm

I did also think about leaving the covers off and covering the center hub/hole but think they`d have to be custom made :?

I`m going to match the wheel colour and spray the covers (again) and see what they look like with the cat on skates :-D

Wondered what was going on at Donny, seem to remember you having 2 new and 2 S2's on.

Why change the S2 wheels, best wheel for the car in my opinion?

Just to be different really as every one seems to have the S2`s now  + i got the aftermarket wheels at a very good price, bit off a shock when they didn`t fit over the rear brake upgrade when they cleared the fronts with plenty off room  But thats now been resolved :-D

Well Pinky passed it`s MOT test today with no problems :-D

Here`s the result of the brake test (only estimated as it`s the old dial type gauge)
This is with Bob Browns 16" Wilwood Dynapro 294mm Disc front conversion with Yellowstuff pads and Bob`s Hi-spec rear conversion, 262mm Disc and Mintex MNB 1890 pads

.....................N/S.........O/S
Rear................100.........100
Handbrake.........120.........130
Front...............330.........350
Balance.............170........170

Looks like the Rear brake is slightly better but the Handbrake wasn`t as good as last year :smt017

Last years
Brains front 16" wilwood kit with Yellowstuff
Stock rears but with Bob`s sliding pins fitted and EBC standard pads

Here`s the results of the brake test

.....................N/S.........O/S
Rear................90..........90
Handbrake......160........160
Front..............330........360
Balance..........200........200

Were last year's results recorded using 6816 calipers or 6806?

MOT brake tests are a bit subjective; they tell you the brakes are working but the figures depend on too many variables to compare one set of results to another. If my understanding is correct then the operator applies the brakes progressively until the brakes are just at the point prior to locking the wheels and notes the figure.
Now the point at which the wheels lock has nothing to do with the brakes it is all to do with weight, tyres, and the state of the rollers.

I'm no brake guru, but those results look almost identical to me, so what has changing the brakes achieved ?

Both results were on front upgrades  and i wasn`t expecting much difference on the fronts, the main reasons for the front upgrade is Dust seals, thicker disc and correct brake balance. BTW a 2 wheel brake test won`t show full braking ability you need the 4 wheel test which will also show brake balance between front and rear.

The reason for the rear upgrade is to do away with the sliding pins and they look great ;-)

There are several reason for changing/upgrading the brakes to a better set up, but on the face of it you will not see a lot of difference in brake performance on a MOT brake test, assuming the brakes are in good working order, but on the road/track is a different kettle of fish.
The ony true way to judge brakes is as Monty said a 4 wheel brake test rig and you also need to monitor brake line pressure.
One of the major failings of the standard brakes is their ability to handle the heat generated when braking, this becomes more evident the more energetically you drive the car. This is not going to be an issue on a MOT brake test at around 2.5 - 2.9 km/h.....
Larger brake discs normal have the ability to handle heat a lot better than smaller discs and let’s face it a cars brakes are just a kinetic energy dissipaters. The standard brake discs also suffer from the fact they draw their cooling air from the outside face not the cooler inner face of the disc. There are a number of other reasons and would take to long to go into here but suffice to say almost all if not all who have upgrade their brakes have found them a lot better than the standard setup be it Wilwood, Hi-Spec, AP Racing, Brembo etc.

It’ll be due to the proportioning valves Paul,

In simple terms ... If a standard car was always 200 front and 100 rear on the MOT and upgrading the fronts, or both front and rear, always took it to 300 front and 100 rear then in theory the valves could be changed to give 300/150 so the brake balance was back where it started.

Ray

My standard figures were ...

....................N/S.......O/S
Rear..............100.......100
Handbrake.......150.......150
Front..............275.......275
