Jim is spot on, really...... make sure that nowt is jammed first. Either by jacking up the drivers side front and turning the wheel with it in 3rd gear, or selecting the gear and push the car along the drive (depending on where it is, and which is easiest).

I would suspect that it is either the starter or the wiring for it (the wires at the solenoid) - but on the off chance that it is seized up, you will risk serious damage if it sudenly frees up and starts.

Once you are happy that the engine is free, the next step is to try to bump start it (it'll probably need a tow!) - that will tell you if it is a starter/battery/wiring issue or something else.... hopefully it'll run, and then it may even jar free something jammed in the starter and everything will be grand.......

There's no way of getting car out of the garage at the moment. I've jacked car up and turn drivers side wheel with it in gear and can see cam cambelt turning as I have the cover off. So tried again got a little bit of a turn on the key and then clicking again, got her back on charge and will try again. maybe it just needs a new battery.

Right, down to the most difficult task, what's the best way of sticking the rearview mirror back on?

Will also need to replace turbo heat shield, anyone been producing an aftermarket one?

Monty - for your mirror there are a few off shelf products you can get from Halfords. As they will no doubt be closed for the forseeable future? I would try a cyanoacrylate superglue first. But, before you do, clean the contact area with a solvent to make sure both surfaces are grease free. Then carefully mark the position of the mirror prior to glueing up. You will probably need to hold, or tape, the mirror in position for 20 mins or longer

PS do NOT get that daft tart Dico to help you. Unless you want him stuck to your windscreen too

Sounds to me as if your starter motor could be stuck somehow Monty ? Is it possible to locate it and hit it with a bit of wood ? Not very technical I know but that's what we used to do in days gone by

My other thought does concern your battery. I suspect its goosed having spent the last 9 years probably sitting with little or no charge. They do take quite a hammering so it would be worth testing first then shelling out on a new one if its suspect. Expect about £75-80

When sticking the interior mirror, remember that the base plate which attaches to the glass will come off the mirror stem (a small allen grub screw IIRC) - that way, there isn't so much weight pulling against the glue whilst it sets.

Thanks Rambo and Dave for the advice about the mirror, I do have some gorilla super glue so I could give that a bash.
It's very possible it could be a starter motor issue, tomorrow I'm going to see if I can jump start from my van, just depends if i can get close enough for the jump leads to reach. I'll report back

My Mirror fell off the other month, got the correct adhesive pads from a windscreen fitter, just clean up both the mirror and windscreen apply the adhesive pad and stuck the mirror back on in one piece really simple and no need to hold it in place while superglue sets. I was actually instructed by same windscreen fitter not to use superglue.

That would be better, any idea what pads he used? Think the standard pads won't work

Pleanty of choice for a battery out there, but having done all the research, I can recommend the Yuasa 5075 from Tayna batteries......https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/yuasa/ybx5075/

I fitted one back in January due to my old one being dead, and the supplier not playing ball with the so-called 'warantee'. It was sold with a 4-year waranty, but to make a claim I had to ship it back to the supplier at my own cost, they would then test it (on a 21-day turn around), and if found to be faulty, would send a replacement. So, it would cost me a tenner or so, and then a month later, I might get them to agree that it was covered..... so I bought a good make from a company who always offer great service (and shouldn't ever need to test their waranty anyway!)

Same ... Got one fitted though i bought mine from halfrauds for convenience with an AA 10% discount . I did take the 1st one back as i let it go flat as a pancake . I then bought a trickle charger on the black friday sales ( as did Mr Pink)
