Nice work Steven. I hope you are wearing good gloves when using those toxic products!

Safety first as always Jamie! The rust converter is actually non-toxic and solvent free - no idea what is in it but it does seem to work well. You may be interested to note that a lot of their testimonials appear to be from MX5 owners, I wonder why they would need to use a rust converter

Par - what are the details on that box for the rear wheel bearing ?
It looks a bit like the the boxes that Bob Brown sold me at Malvern (before he escaped to sunnier climes)
Can't quite read the p/n from your photo

I will check on the p/n tomorrow (the box is in the freezer atm). I picked up the pair a while ago when I first got the car, I think they came from Germany from a link on this forum.
Were there issues with those from Bob Brown that I should be worried about?

No issues with the bearings as far as I know - mine are still in the original boxes
Why are yours in the freezer anyway ? Isn't it cold enough in the Kingdom of Fife ?

Details of the bearing kit are:-
SKF
VKBA 529
EAN: 7316575790322
Good to know there should be no issues with the kit, had me worried for a bit.
The radiation from Rosyth along with the flare stacks at Grangemouth and Mossmorran tends to keep the temperature up in Fife so bearings are in the freezer to make the assembly of the interference fit parts a bit easier.

You only need to cool the outer race... put the hub/disc in the oven too and it will drop in.

It is easier to disguise as a packet of fishfingers in the freezer when still in the box
I left the hub/disc against the radiator for the first side but I still had to drift the outer race home, will try the oven for the next side - what temperature would you recommend?

Hot as you can get. Our fan over goes to 190°C. When working hard discs can get to dull red which is over 750°C so 190°C isn't going to trouble them.

Safety was mentioned above, and when putting car parts in the oven safety is critical.
I would only attempt this when I was sure that the other half is definitely out for a few hours....

I could claim it was practice for the new TV series of The Great Lotus Bake Off

No problem here. My wife has lived with an engineer for over 40 years and it's all about equality. If she wanted to use the oxy-acetylene torch for a Creme Brulee she knows she can..

I agree
Dishwashers are great for cleaning cylinder heads, alloy wheels etc - ovens are for evenly heating parts (oxy gear doesn't always give an even temperature, which can be critical if you are fitting circular stuff like flywheel rings).
But even I don't use the oven for baking powdercoat (but only because of the smell!!).
