Seat Shoulder guards in fibreglass.

Postby Tuga2112 » Fri 19.05.2023, 22:24

so... i had to do some fibreglassing reinforcement around the front jacking point of an elan (not the yellow, or green one) after re-building the jacking point.

after the job was done i had far too much resin leftover already mixed. so i decided to use the excess to practice some fibreglassing of the seat shoulder protectors BECAUSE my yellow car is actually missing them

pictures of my first attempt.
and after painting. and then after a second attempt.

since these attempts. i have ordered different weaves of fibreglass to experiment futher. i believe with the right cuts and alignment of the weave i may be able to produce something to a good finish that will try to sell on ebay to cover some of my ownership costs.

as you can see from this final picture of the side by side.. the finish is considerably different between the 2 attempts. a clear demonstration that i did learn something with the first attempt and managed to improve on it.
