Lotus Elan Central

Not that I'm caught on lights at all, but this is from the Club Lotus France site, and shows what appears to be a prototype Elan undergoing winter testing with some very strange headlights!

What's the revised saying for the passenger mirror?

If someone knows of some lightweight OEM mirrors or wants to have a go at making some carbon fiber ones I have a client source for custom mirror inserts. Seems the power mirror mechanism would be worth a few pounds of savings each side. Good one, Brian!

Hi Dave,

I am deifnitely one for weight too!

If you are looking for light rims with a slightly compromised offset (because i still cant find none at +60mm after half a year's worth of looking), i am using a 5Zigen FNO1R forged.
its" 17x7 4/100 and +42mm offset. Perfect if you were going to use larger callipers. 17inch also gives the car a really mean look and much better traction.

Continental SportiContact 2 is one of the lighter tyres though i am not using them.

It's one of the lightest (~6kg) and strongest rim that i found. Slightly costly though about 280-300GBP per piece over here.

In terms of suspension, i havent touched that yet apart from the super heavy springs and dampers from Gaz. The option that you could consider here is Aragosta. Excellent product but also pricey.

I have switched out the carbon kevlar (stiff enough) bucket seats weighing in at about 5-6 kg a piece including excellent cushion paddings (changeable) and with a excellent newly developed driving posture for this bucket design. They are from Bride (japan). Costly though.

I think the other heavy stuff you have removed. The bonnet seemed a bit heavy too but depending on the weight savings from CF one. No spare tyres and toolkit in the boot will help.

Also, the exhaust system, swithing out to a full titanium one (~ 2+kg) and the Cabon Fibre cam head (<1kg) if possible will also shed quite a few kilos.

Thanks for your alloy rear strut. after toying with another carbon fibre equivalent, the weight savings aint great, so keep that!

Dave, i`m sure someone in the states did some type of conversion as he had trouble getting hold of the light pods. Remeber it being a red M100

was also considering this a while back, one other alternative is the Reimyo (jap) for the RX7. I didnt manage to get my hands on it but perhaps worth a try...good riddance to dancing light pods or 1 eye blinking problems : )

Question for our website Goderators...
Is it be possible to set-up a 'database' section where members can record component weights as they the strip parts off their cars - something more compact than a series of individual posts???
This could help us target our efforts and estimate the potential savings?

I'd never seen this before, and reckon it looks pretty good. Not that I'd do it, but it's pretty good - almost OEM looking.

I have attached pictures of Carbon Fibre Headlights, Headlamp Covers or FibreGlass Headlamps. It would be interesting to see what what an elan looked like if the photoshop experts could mock it up.
