Hi,
For your TRUST oil cooler, do you have its model number?
How is this TRUST oil cooler different from the stock one?
for the 9in radiator fan, how is it different from the stock ones? higher rpm? perfect fit, right?
Cheers,
Michael
desmondsee wrote:FANS: ok the Maradyne 9in fans arrvied. my mechanic got it fitted and fits perfect and the it is also positioned about half inch to the radiator so to have maximum pull. tested the fans prior, my mechanic almost got all his pimples blown away. so i am hoping this will definitely be an excellent upgrade. plastic shroud so no rusting issues. very happy with this upgrade and hope things will be kept cool.
Oil Cooler: next up the Trust Oil Cooler. It comes in Blue Aluminium. Thicker and larger than the stock. Solid Build. In fact, this is the aftermarket part for the Mitsu EVO. But this one is quite expensive though, 380GBP. But i hope this will keep the oil temp low. Especially when looking to upgrade the turbo and boost up.
FAN Switch: Bought the Dick Rodney's parts. Installed the low temp fan switch. Hope that this time there will no more steam and smokes.
Have not installed the Thermostat yet. May i ask if anyone has installed this? Will it require the engine to be taken out for the install ? Any effects for installing this?
I should be able to test the operating temp and cooling in the next few days whilst waiting for the Spearco intercooler's arrival. Further updates then...

Ok i just got delivery of the car today.. and i cannot wipe the smile off my face. heat and temp issues has been bugging me for years! i finally feel so confident of the car now.
I tried the car in the hot afternoon of Singapore sun (34degCelsius) and also in stop go traffic. Thereafter i hit the boost and ran the car hard (though my boost setting is still stock). Unbelieveable response, unbelieveable temp readings for both Oil (82degc) and Water (78degc). It just hovered around these temperatures. Which is the perfect operating temp and the car already pulls , responses and moves like never before. No hesitation just pure pouncing!! I am falling in love with the elan all over again! Now i can finally understand more of the other Power projects that are taking place and appreciate that better.
I have also installed the Dick Rodney of something low temp fan switch but not the thermostat. It's just the right thing to do for those who have heat issues. Do consider the above upgrades. Previously the water temp even hit 110degC and oil temp at 120degc !!! the car was almost reluctant to move ! bad response , low torque, slow = disappointment. disillusioned. suicidal....
Michael (as for the Trust Oil Cooler) as compared to the stock (the stock does look like a dwarf. I didnt have a chance to compare the size physically, but in terms of depth, it is about 0.75 times thicker and lengths is about 5cm and it is also slightly taller. But it still can be made to fit in the same location.
You could do a google search for the Blue Aluminium Trust Oil Cooler. It should retail about 300Gbps++.
Now I am waiting for the arrival of the Spearco intercooler and thereafter i will apply the water wetter and maybe do a little more ventilation. This should improve the engine bay temp further....
the above upgrades are genuinely recommended!

Okay, here are the pics. Sorry i didnt take the product itself as it was already installed.
Anyone installed Rodney Dickmans STAT low Temp Thermostat yet? I have installed the fan switch and absolutely love it. But i want the coolant to start pumping earlier rather than depend on the fans to do the job. It will wear the fans down and significantly reduce it's lifespan.

Hi,
could anyone help with the ECU Wiring diagram?
I would need it to construct a harness for tuning.
I now have the spearco intercooler installed. in my opinon not much diff , only maybe temp is lower by 2-3 degC.
anyway, i have 3bar map sensor, 550cc rc eng injectors, ARP bolts. Hope that i can tune with standalone soon. later perhaps upgrade to GT2560R.
Thanks in advance for the kind souls on your assistance.

Well, i managed to get a diagram of the ECU pinouts from Lotus Directly.
In case anyone needs it, just PM me!
It's from EMJ.4 (ECM Connector Identification).
I think it would be easy for those who have the manual.
This is for in case in the future, anyone without a manual wants one...
Cheers

Hi Desmond, I'm not sure if the pin outs are commonly available as a document around the community but, it might not be a bad idea for you to PM or e-mail Sy V to see if he'd like a copy to keep on the LEC site for members as part of the manual set.

Desmond, there's a comment on this issue in another thread (which I can't find right now). The general thinking is that the fan switch is ok but the coolant switch might be a bad idea. It could possibly throw off the ECU as many of the Elan's engine management "triggers" are also dependant upon engine temp such as turbo boost, etc.

Thanks for the remark on the low temp thermostat.
Perhaps i will write again to Hethel Lotus to seek advise on what's the impact.
Meanwhile, since it was so difficult to obtain the ecu pin out diagram, what i will do is to the scan it into digital form and upload the file....hope that it would benefit the forum members..
i received much help so i would always contribute too where i can ...cheers!

With regards to the discussion on Lower Temp Thermostat, the reply that i received from Lotus (Hethel) is pasted below.
For anyone else considering the same....cheers!
Coolant temperature is of course a major factor in the engine calibration, but the correct air/fuel ratio for any given coolant temperature is independent of the thermostat, radiator, cooling fans or pumps. The lower temp. thermostat may reduce running temperature in cool conditions, but in hot conditions, both thermostats would be fully open, and therefore perform the same.

That's technical legalese. If in cold weather it will help the car run colder. If in hot weather it will perform the same. I believe you & anyone truly concerned with the issue falls into the latter category.
Speaking from a tropical Florida perspective I would not want to run the car at full+ boost below the OE t-stat's opening temperature.
In non-legal terms; keep the OE t-stat.
Strive for perfection in everything. (given time)
Take the best that exists & make it better. (given inclination)
If it doesn't exist, create it. (God did)
Ignore what I say. (good advice)
