Supercharger anyone thought of fitting one?

Postby abmunro » Sat 16.04.2016, 11:06

Has anyone ever thought of fitting one of these instead of changing Turbo?

I'm trying to reduce my lag.

I've been looking at Miata conversion on the internet

But don't know much about it.

Any ideas anybody?

are you sure he looked into that ?
From the few conversations I had with him, I cannot recall a supercharger ever being mentioned.

a small but interesting read.

as far as im aware, ac systems require a compressor powered by the same belt as the pas.
pluging the supercharger into the slot of the air con could work i suppose, that would allow it to be run from the main belt... which could rule out the issues with running an electric?
if you can get one compact enough to fit? (my ignorance stops me from helping much)
im assuming what stopped the plan was something more complex than my understanding of the topic allows any helpful input .

Yes, but how much power do the 2 require to power? This would need to be answered before anything else is considered. I suspect a supercharger would require significantly more power than an air con compressor.

But if the supercharger consumes significantly more power than the air con compressor, the existing belt would be unsuitable & you would have to find an alternative way of driving it. My previous question would need to be answered first.

Then you would have to find somewhere to fit it, if you can.
Then plumb it in.
Then control it, because the ECU's memcal would not know how.
Then hope that it works. If it doesn't, you will have spent a lot with potentially little, none or even negative return.
