I'm not quite sure .... it's totally different ... fun wise it is like a V8 MG but slightly lighter and driving wise more like a Scooby

I had thought about heated seat pads but decided against them

For me, Rambo was and still is, the best car I've ever owned. Fun to drive, incredibly reliable, turns heads everywhere etc...

Very sad to see the old boy go but glad it's gone to a good home

I hadn't got a visor ... so now I have :) ...

The door handle escutcheons were broken on the leading edge with age so got two replacements ... they really make a difference to the look

Oh I see - you could have had mine !! I'm a tall bugger so this has helped me quite a bit.

Still don't know what you mean about the door hanldes - have you got a picture ?

It's OK Maz, I can take it. All those years of ripping the pish by Dico, Monty, Scott, Geoffos et al have made me immune to such comments. Besides, I've always said to myself, if you rip the pish, you have to take it as well ;-)

Anyway, that plinth needed a good clean and the no. plate needed replaced as it was over 25 years old and had seen better days

PS maybe you should set up a business in car detailing Simon. You could fit it in between all the weddings 8)

Nice work Simon, personally I would shorten the number plate down to around 20mm from the edge of the first and last letter  .

I am considering that but the residue on the back of the plate area was like bell metal .... so I've moved on to the "can I manage to do the door scrapers without removing the glass" type problem :)

Well, there are always more important things to tinker in my own opinion :d
I would better have a mechanically perfect car than a too shiny one at the expense of the rest.
Of course if you have time and dedication to do both, it's even better :D

Fortunately by buying from Mark the car has been over looked after mechanically :)

No progress as such as the seats are still at the trimmers ... but that has shown the battery was knackered .... charge didn't last 3 days twice in a row so a new Yuasa is on its way :)

Time to invest in a CTEK battery conditioner Simon

Incidentally, during my ownership of the car, I replaced the battery twice over the 13 year period. In Nov 2003 and late 2011/early 2012. The latter was one of the heavy duty ones from Halfords. For the majority of the time the batteries were on trickle charge via the CTEK

It is well known for some cars (Rambo included) that over a period of 10-14 days they discharge slowly if not used - possibly the alarm, immobiliser, radio etc... or something else drawing charge from the battery. That's why I've always found the battery conditioner to be the best solution as it keeps the battery in tip top condition ready to rock and roll :burnout:

PS I've read that if you leave a modern type battery discharged for several days or longer it may never recover, or only partially recover at best

Seems to be correct. My Elan has killed about 3 batteries which have discharged through the winter months. My garage has no mains so a conditioner was not an option.
I have more recently fitted a solar panel. I doubt it will charge a flat battery but it seems to slow down the discharging process.

I have one of these too Rip. Unfortunately we don't have enough sunshine in Scotland to use it on a permanent basis. But it's great for taking away for a long w/e to keep the battery topped up. And for chilling the beers in a mini fridge :drunk:

I'm fairly sure you could never charge a dead battery with a solar charger though. Best to use a normal charger and tricks the free energy in with a solar charger. I think Dapinky uses one of these on a regular basis ?
