Thank you ,
That's just the correction stage , once that's done we follow it with a glossing stage , that's where it really starts to take shape

Great thread DB ...
Now that you have the high shine on the main panels what do you do with the duller bits that are left underneath the tape ?
Cheers

The next stage is a final polish / high gloss polish , because this isn't an aggressive process you can go right to the edges , in reality you're only talking about 1mm of unpolished surface right over the leading edge of the paint so the final polish blends these in with the rest

Amazing results - just goes to show what builds up on the surface and what we live with !!

Davie,
Thank you for posting this thread. It is great.
I always fail to achieve a good finish between the L O T U S letters so the paint tends to look different there to the paint on the rest of the panel. What really annoys me is when I leave the residue of polish there (Mer seems to be worst for this). In one of your most recent pictures, you have taped the letters up, but how do you get into the gaps to give a good finish which is consistent with the rest of the panel?

Why not take the badges off rather than try and clean them in situ ?

This was one of the reasons that I used a vinyl decal for the lettering when the car was resprayed - annoying trying to get the white residue off, and only a soft brush and water seemed to do anything without scratching the paintwork.

When I go back in and crack on with it later this week this is something I may do , I haven't researched the cost for new badges yet , I could always put the old ones back on I guess but if I'm gonna go to the trouble of taking them off I'd rather fit brand new ones .......I do however have quite a trick Nano polishing tool that I can get in all the nooks and crannies with though

My suggestion of removing the badges was more aimed at Rusty Wishbones question Davie but if you are having a go yourself and can get the badges off in one piece I wouldn't waste your money getting new ones as they are quite expensive.
I would probably try and remove the 25 years of crud by putting the badges in an ultrasonic bath for a minute or so

Sit down and prepare to be shocked
SE badge £19.99
Élan badge £27.19
Lotus badge £43.93
Add on VAT plus P and P on these prices and I think you might be retaining your old ones

Here you go guys ,
finally got round to doing a bit more on the paint work , finished all the paint correction , then followed that with a high gloss final polish and finished the car with a ceramic coating to seal in all that natural high gloss shine , its a different car now looks ace .
- Paint correction completed giving the paintwork a natural high gloss shine , then sealed and protected with a ceramic coating.

Perhaps I should post a picture of my Elan at the moment. You would weep at the deep layer of filth from winter driving down the lanes.

You should. Anything like this ? This was clean in the morning, went to Hull and back in a day and this is what it looked like filling up after 400 miles ... pressure wash next day to get rid of that extra weight!
Yours is looking great DavieBow.
Nice Reg' Number too.

Triple tone, surely? As the Rolls-Royce coach builders used to say "Ivory over Pacific . . . .
