Perfect Elan Garage ?

Postby HJ2 » Fri 28.07.2017, 09:30

Hello all,

I have not posted much on the forum lately. I am in the process of moving to a new home that is more suitable for the family and the Elan!
It takes up all of my spare time. We will move to a larger house with a garage early September. :smt007 After this I hope i am more often on the forum (and in the garage) than now :)

The garage in it's initial shape was too small (well, too narrow to be exact), as it was ony 2.75 meters wide (and 7 meters deep which was OK)
For successful and comfortable tinkering i need some width somewhere in the garage so i have the space to work on the wheels / suspension / steering rack / doors etc. 2.75 meters is just not enough for that.

The problem here is that the garage is an integral section of the house and the LH garage side wall is a construction wall for the rest of the home. My better half agreed to enlarge the garage into the current living room and extend it all the way through the house (really!) which is not easy construction wise. In the construction wall is a hidden column that cannot be removed unfortunately  The plan is now to have a steel construction on the open section you see. I want to maximise the living room as well, hence the half round wall as an est ethically pleasant compromise :-D The length is extended till the end at the cost of the living room as well

This is the old situation:

And this is my current design:

So what do you think so far?

I will present your artist impression to the missus :-D
By the way, in your lay-out I can only dive into the back-yard and back :chair:

Not sure what you are using to make the plans, but I have recently started to use Floorplanner.com for my garage proposals - at least I can visualise it all in 3D, not just plan view - quite helpful when width is a potential issue.

I'm old skool, so using AutoCAD.
No time to learn new tricks at the moment! (but I am tinkering around with solid works ;-)

Who needs a TV anyway?
That way you would have something cool to look at when in your sofa and when at the dining table!

I actually thought about just leaving the stairs in and moving the 'people' upstairs and having downstairs as the garage........ :-D
