Lotus Elan Central

<br>What could really be a project that is useful to everyone?<br>Perhaps this....that the Lotus Elan Owners come up with their own reference project book (or CD)themselves. <br><br>We can all see that the many projects are ongoing. Maybe after all the hustle and bustle is done, all ELAN owners can do a write up on their car with a standard template for pictures/shots and modifications.<br><br>I am sure there will be a lot of exciting stories, and heartaches and pain, and cash burning and bank robbing, laughter, tears, joys, frustrations and blah blah. Definitely more interesting than plain old vanilla mark hughes book. afterall, arent we all for improving the car ? be it a wild modification or replacement with aftermarket parts for cost and reliability purposes?<br><br>i think it will be a good source of reference with convenience. I think it will remind us of the exhilarations for years to come. Unforgotten.  ;)

Sy,<br><br>I agree, perhaps we should be more arsed to write up our experiences. On the other hand some people may not be that interested. I could write up my recent fun and games with the (laughable) front brakes but most hands-on owners have probably been there anyway.<br><br>If game-on keeps posting we will have enough material for a couple of books, a stage play and a musical at the end. <br><br>Cheers<br><br>Jim B

Thanks Dave....next week i should be able to post the brakes and bucket seats install. Gauges are really cool cause the readings are illuminated only when the engine is turned up. Otherwise, they are all black face. Speedometer will be projected onto the windscreen (akin to Heads Up Display in aircrafts) so, no speedo at the dash, only tachometer. The set of gauges are from Defi (Jap), a very popular install in import cars.<br><br>The AP brakes are here but are apparently a little too wide. I will have to use spacers which i dislike. I should have stuck with the earlier model which the shop recommended but my "cleverness" thought the better and now i have this silly problem. Anyway, they will install custom spacers with additional drill holes round its perimeter to ensure a steadfast secure extension. The calliper i am using is the AP Racing CP3788...so for others to avoid if they dun wish spacers.<br><br>Anyway, till more pics<br>

Monty, You bet on it.<br>The sparco steering wheel will be going in this weekend. the rear grille is already sprayed black. the rear light housing will be sprayed black as well. perhaps i can send some shots of these as well in the following week.<br><br>Cheers!

The dash and lights are cool! Where'd you get the lights?

They are ELISE MK II real lamps as i ordered from UK. i think it was either SJ or Paul Matty  ;)

Well, it is a prototype design. I wanted it to look a little akin to the Ferrari Enzo after researching around various looks. It wasnt possible so the nearest was the Modena 360. The rear lamps is angled such that the top end protrudes a little.<br><br>i wanted to go down the road of making the housing in carbon fibre but couldnt get enough support. so what you see in the pics are the one-off metal housing. yet to be finished though!<br><br>cheers

I like the dash Desmond...to me the quality of the Elan dash (or more specifically the hard flat black plastic fascia for the switches and secondary controls) is the only thing that really dates the car.

I agree with you Philbo. I was quite mad when the guy at the workshop used the old switch. We agreed that he will do some re-wiring with small chrome up-down switches to represent the hazard lights etc. he says he has given @$#@$#@!!!.<br><br>I accepted anyhow and intend to attach another piece of carbon fibre with the swithes installed and re-wiring later <br><br>got pictures of the bucket seats and AP brakes now....trying to upload....
