Chassis , suspension, front and rear brakes refurbishment.
G'day everybody,
After my Elan arived in New Zealand with damage to the sump, prongeron and downpipe . I decided to do all the repairs myself and as it was going to be off the road for quite some time I decided to do a few more little jobs while I was at it.
This is a list of the work I have done over the last 4 months,
I started with replacing the downpipe , prongeron and the oil sump .I then removed the cooling fans and repainted the covers and the front antiroll bar was stripped to bare metal and repainted with POR 15.
The front brake calipers were stripped and replated in gold passivate then new seals were fitted along with new Red Dot slotted discs and pagid blue pads.
Next I removed the rear suspension and started to strip everything down to bare metal . The lower wishbones were in quite good condition really with just a bit of surface rust but nothing deep .
I then repainted the lower wishbones , the top arms, the strut and springs and the antiroll bar with 3 coats of black POR 15 .The chassis was repainted with grey POR 15.
The rear discs were also reskimmed to take out the surface rust . They actually mic'd up at 12.70mm thick before I skimmed them which is amazing that they are nearly 15 years old and probably started out measuring 12.75mm.
The rear calipers were already replated in gold passivete about 3 years ago so I just regreased the sliding pins.
I have just refitted everything back together and fitted front and rear S/S braded hoses too . I have bled the system 2 times but there is still a bit of air trapped so I'll have another go tomorrow .
Its been a lot of hard work and very time consuming but I'm sure it is all been worth it . I can't wait to drive it again but it won't be long now.
I will try to add a few pictures for you all to see .
Happy Elaning everone Mike.

...and while you're over here could you make mine look like a 'bought one' too?
