Possible Alernator and/or Starter Group Buy

I've contacted an ebay seller who has remanufactured 75amp alternators and remanufactured starters. Both are for the 90-92 Isuzu Impulse, so are right for us. His listings are for $65.70 USD for the Alternator, and $77.79 for the starterl Both prices include US shipping, and there's no core charge or exchange. I checked a couple of sites, like rockauto, and I found that the cheapest comparable alternator costs $81.79 + $36 core charge + shipping (would not include pulley). Rockauto has a comparable starter for the same price, but not including shipping, and they only have one. Beyond that, a comparable starter costs $89.99 + $36 core charge + shipping.

I've asked the seller to see how many of each he has available, and what brand they are. He'll get back to me on Monday after he checks.

My alternator and starter may or may not be on their way out. (I have the slow starting problem, despite just having put on new MSD coils, new leads, and new plugs, and I have a minor issue with electrics. My voltage on the guage fluctuates slightly when the lights are on, and the fluctuations can be seen in brightness of the headlights and intrument panel lights.)

I'm thinking that even if I don't need to replace them right now, it might be a good idea to have replacements on the shelf in the garage. Also, I'm thinking if I replace one, I should go ahead and do both because of how difficult the access is to either.

For anybody interested in one or both, I'm going to go ahead and start the lists, then I'll post the info I asked him for as soon as he gets back to me.

His listings show worldwide shipping, and I checked on cost to the UK. A single alternator shipped to the UK shows $69 shipping, or about 37 GBP at the current exchange rate. The alternator itself (as an individual purchase) is listed at $50.95, or about 27 GBP, so if you just bought direct from him, it would run you about 64 GBP. I don't know how that compares to your other options in the UK, but I'm hoping that we can get that down a bit with a group buy.

Arrrr right, so the ebay seller will be shipping them out? Just though that if you was doing a group buy that you`ll be sending them on and may get the shipping cheaper.

Monty - a total of £64 inc. postage is still very cheap for an alternator. Japspare parts (Whitney Autoquip) were knocking out re-conditioned ones for £110 + Vat nearly 3 years ago. And that was with the wrong pulley !!

I know it`s cheap but there still a recon and it`s possible to get your own reconditioned here, so thought if i got it cheap enough i`d take a chance but as ever the postage is always a killer and then possibly get stung for Duty

I'm looking into the shipping, but it's possible Monty could be right. If shipped alone, one 11lb package (that's how much the alternator weighs) through Fedex cost like $150 USD according to the estimator on their website.

There must be cheaper ways, because the shipping cost directly from the seller to the UK is a lot less than that.

This is such an early stage, I really don't know how it will all work out, but I'm working on it.
