M100 rear lights/Components

Postby M100TURBOFR » Mon 25.03.2019, 14:48

Hi all
This is just a tentative message to try and "gauge" your interest in the supply of the rear light clusters for the M100. I have found a supplier here in France who is willing to develop and manufacture the rear light cluster for our M100s. The possible options would be:
- the complete unit (minus the "rubber" bulb holders and the silver-coloured Zamac screw-on plate). Price 600€/unit 1190€/pair
- the 4 plastic lenses (1 clear, 1 orange, 2 red) at 180€ for the set of 4
- the rear black plastic support (minus the zamak plate and the "rubber" bulb holders) That black part plate area would initially be painted in chrome for reflection of light (a chemical process could be developed at a later date) 190€/unit.
- the outside "perspex" protective cover 250€/unit 480€/pair

His initial productions would focus on the outside protective cover (most prone to damage).

The supply is naturally contingent upon a minimum "group purchase" order of 20 pieces. An advance for mould development/realisation would be requested. A delivery time of approx. 2 months following the order is announced.
Prices are, I concede, fairly high, but if numbers were sufficient pehaps a better price could be negotiated. In any case, nobody else has proposed these units up until now. For UK buyers, the exchange rate is for the moment (pending Brexit!!!) more favourable.
We're a long way off for the moment, but this may well be a solution to solve our "spare parts" problem. I've also been thinking about the black plastic edging above the light cluster, but haven't asked the supplier yet.
Anyway, let me know whether this could be of interest to you.

David

David, Wienlot (Franck Meunier who sadly died in 2016) was looking into this and it's probably worth your while reading this thread.

Geoff
Well aware of this thread. The Alpine factory in Dieppe has abandoned this project and has no intention of remanufacturing. The Alpine Forum (FAR) isn't particularly active for the moment. As I said, this is a tentative approach to gauge interest before pursuing the matter further.

Hi David,
Thank you for your intended interest in this potential group buy .

Given all the options i think the "Perspex" plastic covers will be your best seller . Most of the internal lenses and bulb holders tend to be in good condition . It is the "Perspex" covers that get cracked.Though at €480 a pair it may come across as top heavy. I fully understand you get what you pay for and given that these are obsolete this is a good chance to tidy up the rear end.

The best way to gauge this is a list.
In order to give you a non binding idea of interest i will start your list off for rear Perspex covers only . Anyone requiring other light items please make your intention known.

REAR LIGHT PERSPEX COVERS ONLY X 2

1. Clemo COVERS X 2
2.
Jim Clark S2 - 1/12. The one with the Yellow spoke wheels . No 613 on dash (pushed in to factory in wrong order 615 on tub)

Clemo (if I may)
Thanks for starting the ball rolling. As I said, if the potential numbers (interest) are high, then it may be possible to obtain a better discount. The main issue here is to gauge interest.
Please add me to the list "perspex covers only" as I'm not to sure how to proceed. Covers x 2

Neil
Pls clarify your comment as I don't quite understand. The proposed articles are slightly cheaper than 5 years ago and if numbers are sufficiently high the price, hopefully, may well descend further. There is currently no other solution for this obsolete part. In the event of insufficient interest, the project will not materialise.

Hi,

Could be interested... I forward the link to this thread to the members of the Club Lotus France (actually to the M100 owners!).
Thanks for the time spent on this project at least.

It may be worth noting that should your rear lights get cracked via an accident and you make a claim on your insurance . Your car will get a category write off minimum . Worst case get completely written off . This is because the rear lights are no longer available off the shelf. This happened very recently . Remember the rear lights that went for £900 on bay . This was because a deal had be done between an owner and their insurance company .The car was to be completely written off all be it with a buy back option but written off for a rear light . The car was repaired but cat registered in the end. ( The same will happen with S2 wheels but thats another story)

Bumpers are still available but rear lights are not .
Lets just say someone bumps your rear in a carpark which would be an easy fix . I think i would rather not go through the insurance and come to a compromise with the other party and use a set of covers i have on the shelf . Nice clean ones not some off coloured non matching thing that i bought of ebay for hundreds of pounds and not register my car as a CAT loss ...

Just my thoughts , personal opinion . Not one from a LEC standpoint .
