Replacement Fans (UK Turbo & NA)

The connector is made by Delphi, in thier Weatherpack range.

Not especially cheap, and at around $6 USD a connector, but if anyone can source them REALLY cheap, let me know...

Then pull the plug housing off your old fan, and reuse?

I'm pretty sure they are AMP Superseal connectors - very similar to the Delphi Weatherpack, but needless to say - not compatible

Is it the Male or Female plug we would need?

I assume we only need one gender (Female?). I've found a source who will do 20 plugs of the same gender plus pins and seals for $40 (=£27) including priority email from the USA, which seems pretty reasonable to me.

The terminal pins & seals come in two gauges: 18-20 gauge or 14-16 gauge. Does anyone have any idea which ours are?

That's not bad - as for gender, it's a little wierd - It looks like a female housing, but it has pins...
This might help:

We need 18-20 gauge.

Having pulled one apart, it would make excellent economic sense to re-use the housing, and just buy pins - 100 with seals would be good (and a smaller packet to post...)

I think Bill was getting most confused with both of us asking the same questions!!

We could of course order 100 pins and seals, so that they can all have the right pins on them, and say 10 new covers for those who don't want to DIY?

when the non-diy'rs have had thier old fans removed (complete with plugs), the plugs could be passed on to the next non diy'r?

we could of course go the whole hog, and just buy 50 plugs and 100 pins - it is quite possible that I'm scrimping around here, and in reality saving nothing?

(That said, I've already collected everyone's money, and I dont really want to go knocking for effectivly another £5 off everyone!)

buying the plugs individually is expensive though - jurys out....

The connectors are pretty easy to get to - infact, once unplugged from the radiator, they pull up into the engine bay near the circulation pump, and would be really easy to change...

It is a fairly high current rated connection around 7A continuous load, and a pretty harsh enviroment which I guess explains the choice in connector; most of that style of waterproof connectors are a similar price - and of course putting the right plug on the fan means not having to modify the factory fitted plug on the loom...

Personally, I was quite happy to just re-use the plugs off my old fans, and solder/heatshrink them onto the new fans...
I think pins only, and re-use the old plug housings is a nice compromise (and neater), which if I had the pins to hand, I would do;

The question has come about I guess to allow the fans to be swapped without any electrical modifications, so again that would mean having to stick with the weatherpack plug...

I'm sure Superseal connectors would do the job, however, you would have to change both halves, as they are not compatible with Weatherpack connectors.

I may possibly have found a UK source of the weatherpack parts...

As i only have one fan on the red one, I'll have to obtain/change the wiring anyway (The car side connector is there, but with a missing fan, that one isn't)

OK, in order to simplify all this, I've bought some plugs (I already have a suitable ratchet crimp tool).
These are the proper Delphi Weatherpack plug, and will fit the sockets on the existing loom.
The original price of £60 for a pair of fans stands as is, and the fans will be shipped with bare tails for you to do with what ever takes your fancy;

For an extra £6, I'll put the correct plugs on both fans (£3 per fan) so they become a straight swapout.

BTW, the fans have been ordered, I'm expecting delivery today.

£6.00 for peace of mind is superb, but not worth getting the cheque book out for (IMHO of course).
