I think you'd better be prepared to be inundated at that price.
I had a SS one made a few years back by Hayward & Scott (admittedly this one includes a bracket with holes to allow you to re-mount all the heat shields) that cost me ~ £500.

We have proposed not to include the mounts for the heatshield as we believe that with the cat removed their will not be anywhere near the same heat anymore so the heatshields will not be required. If they were required we could make up brackets and add these for an approx additional cost of £25.00 (including vat).

They would be made from T304 Stainless. Hayward and Scott are a good company, nice guys, but as they are more set up for one offs it does work out more expensive

At the moment its only the PCE we are looking at just now but im happy if you wanna start a thread for that to register interest I need to find out if Bills car has aircon first before we look at the "Stiffy - Downpipe" Could be worth starting a "register interest here" thread in the Exhaust section of the Forum tho.

Just to clarify Garry, for the £94 you'll only be replacing the pre-cat housing (lower portion of the downpipe).

In the meantime, i have the initial costings of the PCE. The cost of an uncoated version will be approx £94.00 (including VAT). Its no the material cost on this one thats the problem, more the tooling. Getting from a 4" hole down to a 2.5" hole in a short space. Not to mention the cost of the large flange was

My understanding that this part is only for the replacement for the pre-cat and not the whole downpipe coming from the turbo

Sy`s was for the whole downpipe and was robbed blind The one Stevo did (The Stiffy) came in at £200 and cost me another £50 for the ceramic coating.

The problem with Stevo's stiffy was it was designed without taking the a/c compressor into account, if you can maintain the same clearance down the front of the engine as the stock down pipe then you shouldn't have any problems.

Reading on from earlier posts I have a standard SE but with a 2.25" custom made SS exhaust from the downpipe back, I am assuming that this Pre-cat eliminator will fit between the exhaust flange and the 1st of the pieces of exhaust after the turbo and am interested. Any chance of a picture from the lotus manual or similar to confirm the replacement piece the £94 covers?

Do you confirm this is the right choice? Is the special "1st offer price" of 264.38£ still running? Could you also please precise what the shipping cost would be for Paris area, France?

I can't comment on the price, but that is certainly a decent replacement for your stock exhaust...unless you are considering upgrading the turbo & injectors in the future, in which case youmay want a 2.5" exhaust.
The catalyst is only for closed-loop systems (Fed & S2's, not european SE's).
The only other option to consider is noise. The one you have quoted is very similar to the Peco, which pops & splutters a bit. This is a matter of taste:- some like it. If you want to track your Elan, noise may be a factor: some Peco-equipped Elans go near to the noise limit but you should be ok.

Ailwyn - We shall not be developing the downpipe now due to little interest and it means we would need to invest in tooling to do so. Sorry. We should however still be doing the PCE. Mmm, a fiting guide. Cant be too hard.

Fred - Yes this price is still running. Carriage to Paris (or all mainland Europe) is £35.00 - £40.00. Yes it will be possible to buy just the front section with a silencer at a later date if you wanted.

Lotus have pretty much the same philosophy when writing service manuals, simple when that's what you do day-in day-out

How about a guide for those of us that have never removed/fitted an exhaust?... especially how to do the awkward bits like above the cross-member etc as I'm guessing given the restricted space it will involve some manouvering. It needn't take more than 15 mins and a few snaps with a digital camera.... if you send me the text and pics I don't mind formatting it and posting it up for everyone.

Now you've had more of a chance to consider it can you confirm whether all the bolts/rubbers/gaskets and anything else that will be needed for fitting the exhaust will be included in the package? If not (and I can't see why not) I will need to source these parts myself and would prefer as much notice as possible.
