The "Gift" option in PayPal exists everywhere. Usually under the "Personal Payment" tab. Then, the sender is offered the option to pay the fees so the receiver gets the full amount.

I have no problem in making sure the correct, total amount arrives to the seller.

It seems to work OK within the UK but whenever we've tried it from abroad, PayPal always take their cut.

John, within the UK, if you pay as a personal payment/gift, nobody pays any fees.

Same here, but when currency is being converted, there are fees. They are different if you have a PayPal balance, money in your linked account or taking it from a credit card. PayPal will try to take as much as they can every time.

Let's see what it costs when I send the payment when I get home.
