OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer, in other words, the pre-cat housing.

I've finally had my exhaust system and PCE fitted

Mine is the 2.25" system without pre anything

I haven't done many miles in it yet but there is a definate performance improvement and the sound is awsome, a lovley deep growl which builds around 3000 RPM.

I have heard a few pops and bangs when on overrun but I had this with my previous system anyway. Now it's only louder

The wastegate was ported at the same time, so no overboost problems for me so far!

It was all expertly done at TrackVRoad my local TVR and Lotus Specialist. The guys there said it looked a quality piece of kit and fitted really well.

It's unburnt fuel expoding in the exhaust.

make sure your timing is spot on the minimise the popping, but some is normal, id guess the extra silencer would quiten then down a fair bit.

You're wasting it on pops... Why not scare off tailgaters?

2.25" system and a PCE parceled up: 16.5kg, 140cm L, 30cm W, 30cm D.

UPS is well over £200.

My nephew works in international freight forwarding - I'll ask his opinion on the best way to ship a Piper exhaust.
I'm due to speak with the nephew today and will post more info.

Bottom line is we should really try and figure out a cost-effective shipping method for this. Piper surely wants to sell us Yanks some steel. And it certainly come in handy with the folks buying the S2 wheels, etc.

Andy I used to get the popping sounds all the time when ever I backed off .

When I checked the timing I found that it was out a bit so I just reset it and now I don't get any popping sounds at all

I have it fitted as well and it s true that the sound is great... but the wastegate not ported so far (pretty annoying , especially during overcoming...).
Do you have an idea of what it costed you at the garage ? I m not feeling like doing it myself.

It cost me £300 plus parts ( i.e. gaskets ) plus VAT. In total just a touch over £400

The vast majority of that being the labour to get the turbo off, port the wastgate and refit. They did say it took a bit longer than the amount of labour they quoted me for!

After a few months of running the Piper..... a bit more of an update ...

The 2.5 piper gives the occasional Pop, but it also bangs (It's loud as well)...Saying that It takes alot to do it, the first time it did one I nearly sh1t myself...

Flash backs of Stig Blomqvist in an his S1...

If you like quick bursts of harsh acceloration followed by even harsher brakes... you'll get the bangs

I find for the best "Pops" is 2K revs and inertia driving the engine...

Still awaiting the time to fit the "Stiffy"

Boost guage has gone from a rock steady 0.5 to a healthy and far more responsive and quicker winding 0.65-ish... The car feels transformed, much quicker and far smoother. Only done a quick drive but boost creep/fuel cut isn't present. Let's see what the future brings...

Sounds like your Boost gauge is out slightly, you`ll more than likeley get close to 0.9bar

Wow have been looking through this topic and very impressed with how this has come along since it started, and also Pipers dedication to the job, so much that I am cancelling my order with Peco (cybox) to order the Lotus Elan Turbo - 2.25" Exhaust system (without sports cat or silencer) for my S2.

2.5" with no restrictions. Cracking piece of kit, great sound and easy to fit (according the the local mannie) instant increase in performance, boost creep that will need to be sorted .....someday!

Today a section of my current 2" system became split and un-joined. Therefore I have decided to go forward and actually order a Piper exhaust to be fitted asap. Problem is there are so many varying views and advice to take in. I have an S2 and think that the 2.25" system is perfectly adequate but do I or do I not pay over £100 to get the built in sports cat or just risk it with just the Pre cat and also save money? It's not like you can get it tested and if it fails, send it back and order the one with the cat. I need to order this tomorrow and am un-decided as to which is the best option or whether playing it safe is the best.

Emissions regs changed for cars registered after June '96. If your S2 was registered before then, it should be ok without a cat.

On the other hand...

A cat will not allow the exhaust to flow quite as freely & may make the difference between overboost & no overboost.

Faced the same dilemma when I bought mine. I went conservative cos I'm not chasing the last n BHP or db. In fact I dont yet know if its paid off cos I've not had my next MOT yet...but I'm hoping my decision to use the 2 1/4 with Sports Cat will see it sail through (despite also removing the pre-cat and porting). Of course if it doesn't then the rest of you guys with 2 1/2s and/or no sports cat are in deep doos !
