Hi Gordon,

When you say "I'm just trying to find grommets for a sensible price" how are you thinking of fitting these fans?
My idea would be to use a grommet as you suggest but with a center metal sleeve and a washer on the outside.

I'm only looking at replacing like for like, so no center sleave, and still using a plain washer, then a nylock nut. Just to keep the vibration down a little. Think I've got something lined up, just waiting for price.

My memory is jaded (so I may be talking bollocks), but don't the bolts thread into captive nuts?

Sy V you could well be half right as I think they are on captive bolts.
Like this, but may be with out the sleeve, I do not know as I have yet to take them off

Mine are welded M5 studs, which looking at the parts manual, is correct.

4 along the lower support frame, and the other 4 along the upper crossmember.

The studs are only paritally threaded aswell - there were no sleeves on mine, and I have no reason to think the fans have ever been off...

Indeed - one of mine did
at least it was on the lower frame, so it's off the car for repair...

It's probably worth a word of caution actually - These are only M5 studs (8mm hex nut), and don't take alot of effort to shear off.

If one of the bottom 4 on the radiator support frame shears, it's not the end of the world (drop the frame, drill & replace).

However - if you were to shear one of the upper ones off, I can imagine a world of pain..... take care out there.

First clean the threads with a small wire brush then apply loads of penetrating oil and take it easy.

I would have thought 5 hours was pretty good even if nothing went wrong! (you have seen where they are haven't you?!)

Nope - it's far better than mine was

Half an hour with a sandblaster and a bit of a squirt of etch primer and satin black hamerite had it good as new!

But it's bent..... and one of the Y-brackets is really bent.... evidence of one of the front end crashes...

Ok, good news & not suprising news...

Final price for fans is £60 ( 2 fans, 8 grommets, 8 washers, 8 stainless nylock nuts) +P&P
As I said earlier, if anyone wants me to solder the correct plugs onto the leads, and heatshrink the joint, I'm quite happy to do that for a couple of quid extra, otherwise, they are bare tail ended.

Supplier only has 30 in stock (I suspect they were bluffing slightly) - lead time on next order is around 6 weeks - they're coming in from the far east somewhere.

P&P will probably be about £9 per pair - I've got to get some packing as the order will be in one crate apparently.

Assuming everyone is still in, please feel free to juggle your place in the list (down that is, unless you liase between each other) if you dont need them in any particular hurry.

Anyone nearby to tamworth (or coventry) is quite welcome to collect - I've never done this before, so I'm a bit vauge on how payment is best done - I'm quite happy with cheques, or direct credits. personally I hate paypal but if that's the prefered method then I do have an account.

This being "holiday season" an all, I'm away that weekend (13th/14th). I suspect anyway that by the time I've got the money together & placed the order, they probably wouldnt be with me quite that soon. When are you coming back
