regarding whether I have one set or 2 - I'll wait and see how "them as is going to do the work" feel,

if it helps I'll hapilly have another set, if it doesn't help, I'll be OK with the one set.

The list has improved hopefully we can get a few more onboard or maybe the LEC funds can purchase extra sets to make numbers up and sold at a profit back in to the kitty

£750 tooling cost divided by 24 sets = £31.25 + £16 for 4 bushes = total cost per person £47.25

There not set in stone these prices, so could change slightly

I think that we need to consider each order as a separate person. How do you figure cost for second set of bushings otherwise.

So, if we get to 30 sets of bushings ordered, then it would be £750/30 = £25 + £16 = £41 per set.

This was the original suggestion: £750 tooling cost diveded by 30 people = £25 + £16 for 4 bushes = total cost per person £41

Maybe the LEC could afford to add 10 sets to the list and thereby have them to sell to the next 10 that needed them.

£750/35 = £21.43 + £16 = £37.50 per set.

£750/40 = £18.75 + £16 = £34.75 per set.

The next batch would cost less to make, but should still be close in price with the extra going toward the tooling for some other project (like the rear arm bushings).

Personally, I think it's unfair for one person to pay double the non-recurring costs just because they're buying two sets.

I think that is part of the problem: Some are holding back to wait until the tooling is paid for and then will want to order for an unfair lower price.

If the price was $30.00 per set, would the demand be higher? I think so.

That would take 50 orders to break even and then any beyond that would be a profit for the LEC which could/should be invested in another project.

The price of sets should be the same regardless of when and how many sets are ordered.

All of us that have ordered more than one set understood that the price would be the same for each set.

I would love for the demand to be higher so the final cost is lower, but after a while it is more important to actually get the item than to save another $10.00.

Most of us want/need the bushes now or sooner than later.

It has taken almost 5 months to get to this point. I know I will reach a point of frustration and search elsewhere to get my arms built up and ready for use.

Are we absolutely sure the bushes are not another GM "off the shelf" part? Does anyone have the CORRECT dimensions? What are they?

TRW, MOOG and other companies make a LOT of bushings. It would be reasonable to try to find compatible bushings from their stock rather than reinventing them.

I try to support the LEC's efforts to source and/or manufacture replacement parts but lead time seems to be a huge issue with projects.

I want to finish my project now, not next year.

I fully understand your frustrations but it is not easy, try it for yourself and you will soon see how much time and effort it takes.

It is not just a case of getting a bush that fits; it is trying to replicate the originals as closely as possible not only in terms of dimensions but also in terms of the shore hardness of the rubber.
Just finding a company that has the capability to manufacture things like bushes is not that easy and small batches make the profit v effort look very small.
OK may be they were a standard GM part I do not know but one thing I do know, if my research is correct, is the French company that made them in the first place are no longer around.
As you say there are a lot of bushings made but trawling through to find the correct ones is going to be difficult let’s not forget the front suspension on the Elan is some what unique.

I think I may have found the original source for some of the bushes if not all, will need to get the dimensions of the originals upper wishbone bushes to see if I can get them matched.
The rear drop links and the yoke bushes are a standard part it's just the ones that are top hat shaped that need a little more investigation which includes these but it may be possible to get them all.
