Knox Motorsports Official Downpipe Thread

Postby Knox Motorsports » Mon 16.07.2012, 21:58

This will be the official Downpipe Discussion/ Buy thread, as this happens.

I know many of you have asked to have this down pipe produced. Looking at our material costs/ the time involved in the project, here is the situation as I see it;

I need a minimum order size of 10 down pipes to bring the cost below that of a one off custom part, making the jigs for a production run, etc.

As it stands I am looking at $950 a pipe un-coated plus shipping, and $1100 with the white lightning coating plus shipping. If we do not do a run 10, the cost will be higher, as we would be making them 1 off.

I will post a list before of interested clients. Once we reach 10, I will begin to accept money, of which I will need a 60% deposit from everyone on the list. Once I have 10 deposits, I will begin production. I would expect to ship within 2 months of the start of the project. Product will ship as final payments are received.

Group Buy List:

Thanks!

Hello Ben!

Is it possible that you add some pictures of the pipe?
This would certainly help me to decide what to do! :-)

Thanks a lot

I don't like answering for other people, but.....in a PM to Ben, he said the downpipe will be identical to the one we have seen on Steve's car ( viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18109 ).

Incidentally, $950 = £600. When I showed pictures of this to fabricators over here, I was quoted between £450-£600, so we are at the top end of what is to be expected. You have also got to consider postage and possibly import tax, so I think the price is putting people off, or maybe they are waiting to see what Piper will eventually come up with.

I am surprised that more people haven't shown at least an interest, though, with only 126 viewers and no discussion on a tried, tested and nicely engineered item.

Well I'd say this is a dead project to be sure. I just sent Knox off an e-mail asking about some Elan parts (they once had a car they were breaking) and got this reply back:

hello Blair,
sorry to say the car and all the parts are long gone . and we no longer plan on doing any exhaust or big brake kits for the M100.

best regards,

Steve, what exactly did they do for you? I do recall some of the things mentioned in other threads but I'm curious for a summary. I continue to be interested in finding ways to improve power (especially at the low end). I have an Elysium chip, larger bore exhaust, Viper cold air intake and PCE and jet hot coated manifold (and PCE) all of which have made great strides to increasing power. But, there's got to be another 30BHP in there somewhere :-D

I had one of their systems put on just before they were moving to strictly Volvo. Everything from the pre-cat back. Much larger and nosier than the Lotus components.
