This would have to be one of my top tips........along with don't use too long screws when refitting the side window weather strip - but that's another story

Instead of using a IIRC 19mm ( yeah OK someone Correct me) socket to locate onto the pin of the Lotus, use an Ice Hockey puck with a 20mm hole drilled in it and the edge chamfered off instead.

so here's the deal

1) buy one yourself off Fleabay and do the mod - it's really easy...but one of those insignificant jobs that you will keep meaning to do....and then you'll lost the puck...etc

2) I'll do the work, get covered in molted black rubber and post one to you

Around £6 including postage to UK and £1 donation to LEC coffers for each one, overseas will be whatever the additional postage is - price will drop with sufficient numbers.

Don't expect it to be lazer cut and machine drilled - it will be hand made and rustic - but it will work, if nothing else it'll be something you can keep in the boot and hand to a mechanic before they attempt to jack the car up.

I was talking to epipete I think about this in the pub in Glos when we met up a few weeks ago, he's restoring his jacking points atm and he's certain that the sill structure takes the load in the knob in the middle of the jacking point, not the surrounding metal, so the hockey puck is not such a good idea from that POV. What other experience/knowledge is there?

It's true, the bolt head extends through the fibreglass and engages in a nut sited in the centre of a 1.5 x 1.5 inch (approx) sqr of metal that is welded to the bottom of the bracket, the bracket is, in turn, welded to the Cill side of the outriggers.

Hence the lift is via the point, through the bracket into the outrigger, there is no pressure on the fibreglass at all but the pad is actually larger than the plate into which the bolt head engages, I've no doubt that the puck will work if there is no corrosion but there is a risk of placing pressure where there may be limited support!
