Kingsborne Ignition Leads - who wants a set? LIST CLOSED

Postby Fredjohn » Sat 31.05.2014, 00:06

Rusty Wishbone wrote:If anyone else in the UK wants a set of leads and split the postage cost, let me know. I need to know which colour leads you want and whether you want 7mm or 8mm. 7mm are $21.99, and 8mm are $26.99. Postage from the US is £25.15. Even if we get charged duty, this is much cheaper than the almost £100 I have seen elsewhere.

Cutoff for this is Sunday evening at 9pm when I shall place the order.

Sunday eve 1st June 2014

???Presume postage is for one set, but may slightly increase for one parcel/more sets, but per person will be less than £25($25?)????

There may also be UK duty and VAT to pay, but overall it should still be less than UK equivalents.

The required LEC list:

1) Rusty Wishbone
2) Fredjohn 8mm yellow
3)
4)

I'll extend the cut-off to Monday 5pm, since they won't be open 'til then anyway.

For the uninformed of us - what difference do these make?

Thanks

To be honest I don't know the technical benefits, was just taking the view they are recognized as being good quality reliable leads(?) at a very good price. Oh and you can get them in bling yellow instead of boring black!
No doubt someone stateside will have more knowledge or experience of them and will respond in due course.

I am replacing my leads because they look old and the engine is sometimes reluctant to start. New leads from SJ's are about £95. These from Kingsborne are $27.

It is as simple as that. If you don't need leads, you can pass, safe in the knowledge that we are not buying something special or otherwise difficult to obtain.

You can research it on the web, but the theory is simple - the thicker cables are the less resistance there is to current flow and therefore they are more efficient in delivering the spark to the plugs.

As to what increase is actually achieved is for the techies amongst us to advise but assuming your coils and plugs are good and your timing is accurate then when the system demands a spark in the head it will be there at the right time and intensity to optimise the fuel ignition, hence better performance fuel economy etc etc.

Probably the biggest reason to buy these is simply to replace 24 year old wires that have degraded over time. So, if you're replacing them you might as well buy thicker gauge versions with less resistance and heat build up.
