I'd take the place in the list if possible.

...I have a small update, but it doesn't help the final solution......

..... Bearing in mind that I am merely the 'logistics & storage' facility, and not the organiser of the endeavour, I can say that in my garage is a large box with some bits of bent tubing inside, and a smaller package with other bent tubes....

...There is a pair of fibreglass moulds for the hood stowage cover (with the bumps to match the hoop locations) and the moulds for the bits which 'dress' the hoops.

We (well, Clemo!) are still trying to tie down the original fabricator to weld the bits together in a way which is acceptable to Simon (whose name the hoops carry) - whilst I'm sure that we could find someone to do the job, we are equally certain that they need to be done to a standard equivalent to the original run (so I'm not going to be doing them!!!).

Once we have that sorted, we will get the bits of tube, plates etc to the fabricator, along with the jig (which is not in my garage, but is in LEC possession) to start getting things put together.

The fibreglass bits are NOT necessarily part of the 'deal' at this stage, as it is yet another skill which I don't have - although finding someone who does is easy enough - the price may or may not make it worthwhile. As such, that bit is on the 'back burner' as any of those bits can be added to the car afterwards with little drama.

I'm sure that we all feel that the requirement for the metal bits will outweigh the requirement for the pretty bits, and is (of necessity) the priority at this stage.

Sorry guys .... somehow turned my notifications off for my thread .....
Been snowed under with huge house renovation as in only floors left . No roof , back to brick , total wreck . now finished . took a year to do . Ouch .
This took up all of my time and the hoops will need a fair bit of my attention . Which i can now give it .

Pretty much as Pinky said . Requests have been put in for welding but still awaiting reply . As we are low production and low return for the specialist company we are a "fit it in " job . Plus i still need to collect the jig and deliver to said fabricator .

Anyway time to chase up and get back on track.

Speak soon.

Hi all,

Something made me think about roll hoops recently so I looked here and found a group buy in progress! Big thanks to Clemo, Simon, Dave, HJ2 and anyone I've missed (I've not had time to read through)... and if I gave anyone undue credit then just bask in the undeserved glory for now, as chances are you'll not get credit where it's due many more times to come! :D

So the parts are bought, but they're not constructed yet, is that right? I would definitely buy a set, if that's still possible. As a late comer I'm definitely at the end of the queue, but since I'm not in the UK and it sounds like measuring up and fitting is required for some parts it makes sense that I have plenty of notice to get my Elan back for this. If any upfront deposit is needed I can pay that too. Anything else?

Cheers :)

Hi guys.
Update on what is a slow burner here.
The main man (not Simon) with the knowledge (who had previously said never ever again) is slightly warming to the idea of maybe helping us out. He now produces carbon fibre parts for motorsport rally teams so is always busy. That said there could be an opportunity in 6 months time. He is ultimately the person who will give it his full time and attention to the detail of getting it right. And he designed and tooled the original process.

So that's where we are at.
Update again sometime in the spring.
