Almost everyone that sells their Elan wants another within a year or two, easy way to avoid that scenario... don't sell. :) . Good luck with the search bud. .

Agreed .

Not been any yellows in your price bracket for a while .
Seem to have had a run on BRGs for the last few months.
Last decent red Muley picked up tail end of last year .
Jim Clark S2 on the way . The one with the Yellow spoke wheels .

Not much in yellow for that price. You need to stick another couple of grand into that burning hole

And for that you'd get a cracker :burnout:

If you can stretch to £7k (special LEC forum price) you can have mine. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C881484
I've done everything I can think of on the car and I've done it properly with no cheap fixes or bodged repairs.
Flights from Glasgow to Southampton (I'd meet you at the airport) are £45 mid week. There also some others pics on the forum here:

Need to sell this car and my Merc S class and get something that'll do 30K a year for the new job.
Good luck in your continued search.

You'll regret that! Whatever you buy to do 30K in will soon depreciate the value of the elan and you'll be left with nothing.

I've six cars in the household and two have to go to start with. Whilst everything on it works and theres nothing to do its a good time to sell the Elan.
Regrets....? Definitely, and it would be very difficult to pick up another like it in the future and I can't see myself going through the pain of restoring another one to the same standard. This is why I've had very mixed feelings about selling it but this time I've decided it has to go. :(

Andy,

I know we have spoke before and if I had the funds I would buy it but the £6k is me maxed out. I've actually only got 5 but the Mrs has sanctioned another grand from the savings account with strict repayment terms. :-)

I'm really surprised it's still available actually!

I only put it back on the market on the 14th June. I took it off shortly after we last corresponded in January as I didn't think it was the best time of year to sell. Apparently this is now a better time of year and at £7k its £850 lower than I was prepared to sell it for in January. My prediction is that if you spend £6k on a car you'll still have to spend well over £1k in the first year. Unfortunately Lotus's cost a lot to keep going if you want them to perform as they were designed. However I hope you find a car for the money that doesn't need any more money spending on it.

Now how about a Mercedes S320 56 plate, 114,000 miles, 1 previous owner, FSH, absolute luxury and only £6k. I'll even throw in a set of microfibre polishing towels. :D

Andy - that Merc. is only just run in. I would say keep it and stick the 30k miles per annum on that one. In 3 years you are up to 200,000 miles and those engines will easily do 300k miles without major problems

Run it into the ground and after 6 years it will owe you nothing

Keep your lovely restored red M100 and in 6 years time it will probably be worth 2 or 3 times what you are selling it for now

Rambo,
I understand what you are saying but servicing and fuel for the Merc to 30k miles per annum isn't cheap compared to your average Mondeo TDeum Blandmobile which I'd buy at the BCA Blackbush auction. I calculated about £2,500 cheaper per annum. Anyway once the Porsche Boxster is back from the garage I'll market all three of them more seriously on Autotrader and see which sells first. Yes I know I have a Cockster  and you always knew there was something funny about me but you couldn't put your finger on it... :D But at least I don't have an MX5.

Nothing wrong with Cocksters as long as you don't have one of the ones prone to IMS failure. I'd have one if I had more room. In fact, when I eventyally move down to Herefordshire I'll probably get one.

No I made sure of that. The IMS failures were predominantly in the 986 and 996 before 2005. They changed to the bigger bearing during 2005 so anything 2006 onwards is pretty safe and I have a 2006 987 so I don't believe those cars have suffered any issues. I had it checked out by a Porsche specialist as well and he said it was fine. Thanks for reminding me though I can put that in the advert.
