Looking for my first M100 too...

Postby JusNoGood » Fri 12.01.2018, 15:51

Hi All,

I've talked about myself in the 'new joiner' section so not wanting to repeat myself I'll skip my background :-)

I'm looking for a M100 that is in very good condition, lots of service history and invoices. I would like an example that is mostly standard with perhaps some practical improvements (upgraded brakes for example, but please no bov). Needs to have a Turbo. I think I'd prefer a S2 with all the little tweaks and improvements they made to those, although I'm not adverse to a S1 in great nick. I was initially looking at the low mileage examples (<30k) but I do realise low use sports cars can be problematic and a few comments I've read seem to back that up, so now I'm now not so sure :) Colour wise just not black or silver.

Price wise I've not seen one out of my price range (except the one for £35k I saw, must be an error!) but obviously I want a good deal just like the next person.

I've not owned Lotus before so any help and/or advice would be very gratefully received :) , as would any links to any articles or videos you think would help me.

I've read the buyers guide and FAQ on here. Watched the Top Gear review and also found this helpful fella ...

I know of a palacio purple S2 that is pretty much standard which is possibly coming up for sale in the Preston area
Car belongs to a guy who has been on this forum known as transcup
Car is very tidy
I have no affiliation with the owner or car but have met a couple of times at local shows
Always nice to have options to compare against
simplify and add lightness

I had a purple one once ..
Very nice colour ( of course subjective ) but when you catch it in the light you will see it is not just purple but metallic purple with a silver and gold fleck to it . Having just read that back it doesn't do it justice. It is nice HONESTLY !.
Jim Clark S2 - 1/13. The one with the Yellow spoke wheels . No 613 on dash (pushed in to factory in wrong order 615 on tub)

I'm standing up for Palacio !, very nice colour for the Elan, pictures never really show how 8) it is as compared to seeing it for real, polished and gleaming on a sunny day...stunning.

Wasn't saying anything bad about the colour...honest :D was just the funny description Clemo gave it :)

Difficulty I think I have with the colour is actually seeing one in the flesh to see whether I like it.

Steve's car looks stunning and if he was 100 miles from me I'd have gone today to see it and probably have it sitting on my drive now. Unfortunately it's a 8hr round trip, if the traffic/train is really good, to visit Steve. My time is precious to me and I don't think I want to give away a whole day to go and see whether I like a car colour. I may go and see it once I've seen a number of cars. I am going back to look at the photos every few hours and the colour is growing on me so I could change my mind. It has flashed through my mind whether to contact Kathryn to see whether she is willing to show a stranger her car too. Although that would be a 3hr round trip I do have family that way. Again, perhaps after a few weeks/months of looking I'll be more determined to go to extra lengths....Would be so much easier for me if it was BRG, Blue, Red, White, etc etc

On a serious note for a minute, if it’s Palacio, it will almost certainly be an S2 (unless it’s a respray), so it will have such goodies as galvanised wishbones at the rear :D

Thank you very much Kathryn. Very nice of you :D I'm going to see a few over the coming weeks. I'll see how I get on and give you a PM if I'd interested in seeing the purple - Hopefully see you anyway at one of the southern meets :)
