Water leak !!!

Postby discovery » Wed 04.05.2005, 08:20

After about 3 hours of being parked up in very heavy rain the space behind the seats was flooded !!!
Just a couple of drips from front screen ,not enough to worry about. Any ideas please ?

Ingress below (or down the sides of the glass into the bottom and out) the doors across the sills is my prime candidate - were you on a slight slope per chance?
Followed by ingress above the B pillars.

My first option applies then.

Re: Water leak !!!Service Notes manual itself

Postby John_W » Wed 04.05.2005, 21:00

I finally remembered where all the "leak stopping" info is. It's not a Service Bulletin as I wrongly remembered - it's in the Service Notes manual itself. See Addendum no 1 "Water Ingress; areas of attention" pp 55-73.

It's quite comprehensive. Too comprehensive actually - I don't think you need to do it all.

About all they missed is adding extra foam seal (or silicon sealant) to the top of the windscreen to prevent water getting in past the header seal and dripping down at the A-pillar. This is a better solution than the "drain tube" method in my opinion, as it treats the cause (water getting past the seal, not the effect (water dripping onto your knees).

John :)
