I think Lotus store the details of the keys and electronic gismos and can make new ones up without the originals.

Although I suspect that the time and cost might be probibitive (it took about a month to have a new alarm fob made after mine broke - although I am not sure how much of this was the dealer).
Stevo,

you shouldn't need to buy a new lock. I did the same thing half way up the french alps ! you need to hold the barrel with a pair of adjustable locking grips and rotate it. If it's a bit stiff you can use a screw driver blade in the key slot as well. There is only a small spring clip holding the barrel in place via two flats. I cant remember which way I rotated it though ! The barrel turns just enough to release the locking lever. Be very careful not to damage the paintwork around the barrel...use a cardboard template or some rag to protect it. You will need to straigten the spring clip afterwards (or purchase a new one).

Hope this helps.

Chris.

Dimitris, actually I think the correct term is a 'chastity' belt! However, they are not used these days as we trust in the good behaviour of our ladies when we are away ::)

The NEW Vectra actually locks the keys in the car for you, as if you dont put the keys in the ignition after opening the car it automatically locks the car again after a certain time. [smiley=moon.gif] [smiley=moon.gif] [smiley=moon.gif] [smiley=moon.gif] [smiley=banghead.gif] [smiley=banghead.gif]

let this be a warning to you all! Don't let your bird near your car. If you have only one set of keys, get another set cut NOW! Don't put it off like I did.........

Thanks for the reply at 1.13 Chris - unfortunately, at 1.12 I had taken a drill to the lock and drilled out the barrel. Ah well. Before I did this, I made sure I could get a replacement lock through my "local" dealer - Murray Motors in Edinburgh. The locks have to come from Lotus direct. All in, I won't see much change out of £100!!!!!

[smiley=bawling.gif]

The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago , I got a locksmith out to see if he could get into the boot and after 20 mins he gave up . Next he decided to take off the barrel from the passenger door , take it home and dismantle it . Came back the next day with a new key and a bill for £70 !! Anyway he said that the barrel was off a V. Carlton glove box ?

I done this myself..... :D
IT SUCK'S

Even in my youth i used to take away cars !!! I could not get into the boot of the Elan, well i did, i drilled the bastard out !

I then phoned around alot of key company's, these could not help me !!
I phoned lotus £40ish quid later and they send over the boot lock and two door locks as a kit.

What i am going to do is get a door popper !!
This will have a switch in the car, also work on the alarm key fob, push the button it pop's the boot open !!
I am also taking the key lock out of the boot, so you will only be able to open the car either from the alarm or a hidden switch in the car !!
I am also doing the popper thing with the doors, as i lose keys all the time.

I will post them company on project thread if anyone want to look ?

Game-On ;D
